Rating: Summary: Nothing but net.... Review: The beauty of this book is that author and ornithologist Joanna Burger, shares her field experiences, while weaving in an incredibly heartwarming story. Burger introduces her readers to exotic places such as Australia, where she describes the behavior of foraging cockatoos. Closer to home, she gives us a look at the relationship with her own parrot, Tiko, a Red-lored Amazon parrot. As someone who shares her life with birds, I related to many of her experiences, and as a result, got better insight into my own birds' behaviors. While I was reading this book, I got the distinct feeling that I was talking to a friend -- a very wise and compassionate one.
Rating: Summary: A must for anyone who is thinking about getting a bird Review: This book was a delightful marriage of humor, ornithology, environmental science, and parrot-human relationship dynamics!
Admittedly the author does allow her bird to do some things that are no-nos for birds (eating chocolate, tearing apart furniture), but the book does a wonderful job of contextualizing certain behaviors of wild birds that are seemingly inexplicable to those of use who have "house birds." It is a helpful book for people who are thinking about getting a bird, as well as for those who already have one.
