This book blends both qualities with its easy to decipher illustrations and colorful photography. The insight into the designers behind the creation made me feel that beading and jewelry making will become more than just a passing hobby for me. For those who begin by purchasing glass beads by shopping at mass market stores, this book helps educate the reader to types of beads on the market and train our eyes to seek out and truly appreciate the art that goes into making glass beads. This book also contains one of the instructions to help the beginner beaders. From basic stringing to the glossary of beads, this book is a must-have for anyone interested in beading. I consider this book as important as a good pair of pliers that will become part of my tool box.

This book has inspired me to think "outside the box" in my creations and I admire the beautiful masterpieces that appear in the book. The writing encourages me and I look forward to future books by Susan Ray and Richard Pearce.

Sixteen amazing lampwork artists talk about their own creativity, what got them started and share a few tips and advise on where to go to find proper equipment, glass and get help along the way. Many of these artists pour out their "souls" and share their beads as well as their experiences as they struggled to learn methods to this ancient craft as well as how to buy their beads for use in your own work. The book also has lots of projects for art bead jewelry makers. The book has easy to follow jewelry directions, illustrations, glossaries and how-tos. The photography is very high quality. I would say that anyone interested in art glass beads as a craft would find the book helpful. I enjoyed each artist's own narrative. It was a very personal look at glass bead jewelry: art and soul.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: A book about stringing, NOT about making beads Review: Some of the other reviews and the editorial info fail to make it clear that this book shows you exactly how to string some (not very inspiring) necklaces with lampwork beads, but it is NOT a book about making lampwork beads. There are exhaustive (and to me anyway, pretty tedious) biographies of a lot of artists, but there is so little about their actual techniques that I was only frustrated. It's not very informative to say, you can make anything out of Moretti glass! Well, sure, but how? So, if you would like to know the stories of some bead artists, and if you want to know exactly how to construct a few necklaces, you will like this book. For me... well, I would have given it 1 star, except that it's hard to blame the book for being not what I expected. I would have preferred to see the artists discuss their techniques in a lot more detail.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Magnificent Book for Every Level of Beader Review: This book is definitely not for lampworkers, as it contains no information on technique. Even in terms of eye candy, it's lacking -- most of the beads shown are the common dot and line designs you see from relatively new lampworkers [...] every day.I wouldn't say it has much for those who make beaded jewelry, either -- just the same kinds of projects and styles you see in the bead magazines every month. [...] it's not worth the money. It gets one star from me, but only because that's the least I can give.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Wonderful book for lampwork enthusiasts! Review: This is a terrific book for anyone who appreciates the art of lampworking, especially for those of us who collect these beautiful beads. There are short bios of the featured artists, along with examples of their work and tips for other lampwork artists. Being a collector of fine lampwork beads, I was delighted to see the faces and read the stories of so many talented artists I have come to "know" over the years. This book is a "must have" for bead lovers, jewelry designers, and lampwork connoisseurs, and would make a wonderful gift for anyone who appreciates glass artistry! I HIGHLY recommend this book!
