Summary: Detailed and interesting...
Review: This book is detailed and interesting; however, even though it spans several historic periods, it can be technical and at times dry. If you are looking for an enjoyable read *and* you like to get into the nitty-gritty of things, then I recommend this book. If you like history, sociology, and economics, you will most likely enjoy this book. However, if you are not interested in an academic approach that occasionally dabbles in the gossip of the past, then I would pass on this text.

Chapters discussed are: the Early English Garden (1500-1640), the Rise and Fall of the Formal Garden (1640-1730), the Age of Elitism (1730-1820), from Waterloo to the Trenches (1820-1914), and Riches to Rags to Riches (1915-2000).

280 pages, including introduction, illustrations, photographs, maps, references, and index
