Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A much needed overview on the subject. Definitely a Keeper!
Review: Profusely illustrated with both color & B/W photographs Mr. Bird's book is a comprehensive study of this often overlooked genre. Definitely not just a coffee table edition, it's a scholarly work that people will find themselves turning to again & again. It not only attempts to cover every imaginable form but also provides ethnic & geographical origins relevant to the construction, design, use & decoration of the objects. I heartily reccomend "Canadian country furniture" to you based on the quality of the research & the plain manner in which it is presented. This will prove to be an invaluable reference to the decorator, dealer & collector. Most of all it will be enjoyed by all who enjoy reading about the development of a furniture form & it's historic context. If you've already read & enjoyed this book you'll also find "Painted Furniture of French Canada" by John A. Fleming & "Country Furniture & accessories from Quebec" by Warren L. Johansson worthy candidates to add your collection
