Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A lifeline for any first-time puppy owner
Review: Great advice on how to deal with two puppies or raising a puppy when you already have a dog. Has step-by-step photos on how to teach those crucial skills like loose-leash-walking, and coming when called, potty training, crate training. Bases training on positive reinforcement so you can begin training your dog months before traditional methods would be appropriate. i also recomment any clicker training book you can get your hands on.

Summary: The best puppy book available
Review: I am a professional dog trainer, and this is the puppy book that I reccommend to my clients as well as on my website. Clearly written, positive instructions guide you through the process of raising the perfect puppy.

Summary: Great Book for everyone
Review: I bought this book before I got my puppy. It is full of great advice on all aspects of getting and rasing your puppy into the problem-free dog you want. It has full colour photographs and step by step guides to teaching your dog basic commands and lots more. it is a very good book. the only thing which could be improved is the basic training section, where i think it should be explained further. but overall this book is very useful and I recommend it.

Summary: VERY USEFUL TOOL
Review: I found this book extremely helpful after just a few minutes of reading (learning that some of my methods were wrong and improving the ones that were right). The author's experience with puppies is clear once you implement some of their techniques and receive positive results.

The book gives you simple training ideas (such as using a pen in combination with a create). It also helps you get inside the head of your puppy (Alfa role's etc.). Understanding your puppy's reasons for their behavior makes training fun (as I'm sure you know by now).

I'm giving this book a five star rating due to its simplicity and the results I received. I would recommend to anyone with a puppy or planing on a puppy to also buy more than one book and watch animal planet for other helpful tips (I also found the videos by Matthew Margolis informative and entertaining).

Summary: The Perfect Puppy: By Gwen Bailey
Review: I was feeling like I was the only person who believed it was better to train a young puppy rather than try to retrain an older puppy. This book had some ideas I have used and some new helpful ones. I really recommend this book to anyone getting a new puppy. I think it was short enough, easy to follow, and to the point to help even a child learn how to have a perfect puppy. If everyone getting a puppy would read books like this we may not need Humane Societies.

Summary: A MUST read book for new puppy owners
Review: I was lucky enough to have "The Perfect Puppy" as the one and only puppy training book I purchased when we got our new puppy. The book is fun to read, the techniques are easy to understand and perform, and the results are undeniable. Our dog is now a three year-old well-behaved, happy dog, all thanks to this book. People ask if our dog was professionally trained, but all we used was this book.

The "dog mentality" insight offered throughout the book helped us clearly understand what and what not to do in order to get desired behavior from our puppy. I really loved the emphasis on positive reinforcement training methods and the attention to "keeping your puppy happy". The many pictures are adorable to look at AND serve as helpful illustrations of proper techniques. I have recommended the book to EVERY new puppy owner I encounter.

Summary: Anyone with a puppy should read this book
Review: This book is packed with valuable information about puppy development and dog behavior that helps people understand their new friends. You may want to have another training manual handy, however, as several of the author's techniques for teaching basic commands did not work with my puppy. Dogs do not always respond the way Ms Bailey unequivocally claims they will.

Summary: Too Generic!
Review: This book is waaay too generic. It assumes pretty much everything and does not go into detail about anything! Also, I find it to be written more for the super-busy family rather than a person who wants to be with their dog 24-7. It does have some good points, and will most definitely benefit a person who doesn't know zilch about dogs. But if you've ever had a dog, you'd probably know most of what's in this book.

Summary: A Good Book.... Just Not For Us and Our Canine Companion
Review: We bought this book when we adopted a puppy. The ideas were very well-thought out and well-written, easy to understand. I read this book over and over and wondered why my puppy was still behaving like a maniac, very few of the techniques worked. I began to question myself, thinking I could not understand the simple techniques written about in this book.

We hired a trainer. When he came to the house he saw "The Perfect Puppy" sitting on our coffee table, and mentioned that he thought it was a great book....... just not for us!!! He explained that the book was written about more submissive breeds (ie Golden Retreiver), we adopted a puppy made up of 2 very dominant breeds. At least I figured out that I wasn't crazy after all!

I'll keep the book around and definitely pass it on to anyone I know who will be getting a puppy. I'm very disappointed that it didn't work, because as I said, it was well-written and easy to understand. I hope it benefits someone else.
