Review: I purchased this book as a Mother's Day gift and found it to be quite simplistic, so much so that I returned the book. The editor's and reader's reviews over-rated its' applicability for the seasoned quilt maker. This would be helpful if you are just starting out and need a reference book. My mother and sister, both accomplished seamstresses, felt they would have no use for this book.

Review: i recently borrowed this book from a quilting friend in order to do sewing machine research and was very impressed by this book. it covers every type of modern quilting method. the instructions are detailed with many pictures and "try this" hints. however, i felt the description of channel applique was confusing--some techniques deserve more than 5 paragraphs of description. i'm going to order this book; i was about to start buying books describing individual techniques (applique, hawaiian quilting, sashiko, etc) when i realized this book has it all. -teri fratkin

When I need to learn something new or brush up on a skill or have problems, this book helps every time! A to Z topics plus an index for more specific topics. Easy to understand instructions most of which include a variety of techniques for a given topic. You gotta have it on your shelf!

Review: I've only been into quilting for the past 7 months but have a library of approximately 15 books and am adding to it by the month! This book is the one I go back to over and over with questions, concerns, etc. and I always find it extremely informative and helpful.

Summary: "EASY ON THE EYES"
Review: If I could have only one book on the updated methods of quiltmaking, this would be it. Beautifully illustrated, clear instruction, and best of all, just flip open the book and "Voila"!, it is all in alphabetical order. Who has time these days to read intense dialogue, when what we really want to do is just start quilting!!! This isn't just for beginners. There is enough information to use until you wear this book out. You must have been reading my mind Ms. Pahl. Thank you!

Quilting books-and I have a huge " beginners" collection-are geared towards those who have at least grasped the basic terminology of sewing and quilting. If you do not understand "stitch in the ditch", "burying the knot", "selvage", or how the determine the "crossgrain"-start reading today! It will save you a lot of time, frustration, and wasted fabric, money, and resources. Quilting should be inspiring, fun, and relaxing-not an exercise in frustration. This book will save you the heartache of a dust gathering project. Remember that all learning involves the basics-the bulding blocks of knowledge-sewing and quilting are not the exception. Do not be discouraged by those who have been sewing for years-everyone has to begin somewhere. Peruse the other selections that Amazon has to offer. Review: If you're a beginning quilter, this should be the first book you buy. It will see you through many projects and teach you all of the basic quilting techniques. Almost as good as having an experienced quilter sitting next to you and guiding you.
