Rating: Summary: Great book!! 6 stars...no 10 Review: I have never used a router, (I ordered the Bosch twin deal,- from Amazon, of course- fixed and plunge...not yet arrived) and I bought this book which came first (on Friday night and it showed up on Monday!!! -nice job amazon). I have all of those beginner questions and many were answered in ten pages. Of course, I have many more that I am sure will be answered in the next 300 pp. This book, the writers, are obviously very, very eperienced woodworkers/craftsmen. It is great...better than great. The Taunton press books, are for the most part, a waste of money and time.
Rating: Summary: best router book available Review: I love this book. It has to be the most informative and comprehensive book on routers out there...
It has plans for building you own router table and surprisingly enough, it resembles the one off of the New Yankee Workshop!
My *only* gripe about this book is:
1) black and white photos
2) all the routers they use are outdated
3) the pics have to be from the 70's, these guys are hippies!
However, knowledge is knowledge and it doesn't matter how old it is. There aren't many technique improvements to an already perfected technique, so the fact this book seems outdated doesn't really matter. (except where actual router models and brands are referenced)
Rating: Summary: Pays for itself by saving you stock! Review: I make fewer mistakes now that I have this as a reference in my shop. This book is great for a beginner and I am sure that the experts will pick up numerous tips from this book. I recommend buying this book BEFORE you buy a router or any bits or jigs. I never realized how much you could do with a router till I read this book. I am no longer intimidated by a router now and this book has opened up so many possibilities for me. Don't bother getting another book on routers "just in case" this one won't be helpful, this is all you need.
Rating: Summary: I love this book. Review: I used this book for tips and suggeustions at least once a month.
Rating: Summary: An Essential Guide to Router Work Review: I'll try to be brief: This book should be shipped with every router sold. It is hard to imagine a better guide to routing. If you know nothing about using a router, this guide will fill in nearly all of the mysterious details which beginners puzzle over and get you going, successfully, very soon. If you think you already know everything, read a bit more and you will be trying stuff that never occured to you before!

Rating: Summary: Wow. Just plain wow. Review: I've got my fair share of books on woodworking...Mostly I scan them once and them put them away. Not so with this book. It's a tremendous source of ideas and inspiration. I've found myself coming back to it again and again for ideas on jigs and other techniques with my router.
Rating: Summary: Very good book for beginners Review: Let me preface this by saying that I am an absolute beginner at woodworking. I recently bought a new Porter Cable router for some home-repair type work and later bought this book when I became insterested in what else I could do with this tool. This book has my head spinning with all sorts of project ideas. It goes into a good bit (no pun intended) of detail on various techniques in a way that won't lose you if you aren't fluent in the jargon.
Rating: Summary: Something for everybody; a most useful router accessory. Review: More so than any other single tool, jig, fixture, or accessory in your shop, this book helps you solve problems and get the job done. Starting with the basics of selecting and using routers and bits, you'll believe by the time you're halfway through this book that the router can do every job all your other tools do. By the time you finish the book, you'll understand how to do it all for yourself. The reason is simple: a router is simply a powerfully driven bit that be be guided with great precision. Bill Hylton taps into its potential by exploring the various ways to hold and guide it, performing jobs normally associated with other tools, as well as the exciting and mundane traditional routing jobs. Whether you're a beginner or expert with a router or woodworking, this book has something of value for everyone. It is well illustrated with photos and line drawings, bringing life to Bill's clear and easy to read writing style.
