Summary: Thought it would b edifferent
Review: I bought this book because I thought it would give me project specifications for the novice furniture builder. It doesn't give project instructions. Instead, it gives instructions on any simple design that you might create for your own furniture designs. It gives instructions on different drawers, different doors, different legs, etc. In other words, this book gives you the freedom to be creative and also to accomplish your own vision.

Summary: Good read, but missing some important info for beginners...
Review: I found this book very easy to read and well laid out, but a little lacking in some specific topics.

I consider myself a novice/newbie woodworker, and as such I look for simple, basic information to build upon (no pun intended). I am currently looking at constructing some simple cabinets/boxes using Melamine, and this book will not provide much information for this. It mentions many of the 'man-made' products available today, but does not provide any info how to work with them. I wanted some specific information for working with Melamine:
- how boxes might be constructed using Melamine
- types of joints that are typically used: dadoes vs butt joints
- Can you glue Melamine?
- Can you use screws with this material?

But this book does not provide any such info.

This book is geared towards creating projects out of solid wood, which I plan to do someday, but that's not where I'm starting. So I will continue reading and keep the book around until I have sharpened my skills enough to move onto the 'bigger & better' projects

Summary: Great pictures and information, but a little disorganized
Review: I really like this book. I find that it has a lot of great information, not just about making cabinets but for organizing a woodshop in general. The stuff like "anatomy of a cabinet", comparison of different types of joinery as applies to cabinet making, and some of the suggestions for tools and jigs are quite good.

The only problem is that the text is sometimes hard to follow. He isn't really very methodical, and will go off on tangents, sometimes forgetting to go back to the main point. All in all its worth having though.

Overall I have found "Building Traditional Kitchen Cabinets" much more detailed, complete, and methodical - anyone who wants to make cabinets really ought to get both books.

Summary: No plans, but good instruction
Review: I thought this book would have several plans in it. It has a few, but mostly the book shows different techniques for making furniture and cabinets.

Summary: Very Impressive
Review: Like most woodworkers, I have a pretty good collection of books on the subject. I was surprised by this book. It is packed with a lot of small details, great pictures and a lot of content. After looking through the book, I felt I had gotten more than my moneys worth on this one!

Summary: A beautiful book with lots of great information
Review: The book is organized in a way such that the simpler techniques (in a particular areas, for example "shelves") are introduced first followed by more advanced techniques. Lots of sidebars on how to create helpful jigs. Most of the techniques require a somewhat well equipped workshop to execute the steps. This book would be a great addition to any woodworker's library.
