Rating: Summary: A wonder-full explanation of the unseen magic of horses.... Review: As a student of Vita Lobelle (one of the theraputic animal communicators mentioned in this book) and the owner of an uniquely sensitive Arabian gelding, I found this book to be a Godsend at a time when I sorely needed one. There is a saying that when the student is ready, the master will come. For me, it came in the form of a serendipitous referral to "The Tao of Equus." This book is a guide, a lesson in the form of one woman's journey through a world most of us have forgotten. It is an affirmation, showing us the truth behind the things we knew as children and conveniently forgot as we grew older and were told it wasn't possible. Linda explains nuances and shades of things I had sensed, even used, but not fully understood. My "four-footed miracle" has already taken me so far, but now I can't wait to take it to the next level with the insights I gained through this incredible gift. Thank you Linda! I would recommend this book to anyone who knows there is more to horses than hoof care and equitation but doesn't know how to explore the "lake behind the horse's eye." Please, please, if you care about your horse: read this book.
Rating: Summary: WOW Review: Can't put it down. Absolutely wonderful and insightful book. Introduces one to high communication with animals. Also would recommend the following: "Conversation with Horse" and "Conversation with Cat " both by Kate Solisti-Matelon as well as "Wild about Horses" by Lawrence Scanlan . Our animals are trying desperately to tell us things. We need to learn to be quite and still and listen.

Rating: Summary: A Brilliant Book That We've Been Waiting for Years to Discov Review: Finally, finally, finally the good old boyz network can move aside for the women, starting with Linda and this book. How it is that women hav enot written more books about the unique relationship between us and our equine companions boggles the mind, but never mind. The Tao of Equus is here. If you have ever "felt" soemthing "more" when riding or hanging out with your four-legged thousand pound angel, READ THIS BOOK. She's got another one coming and does seminars and has a great web site, etc. This one is a MUST for anyone -- but especially women -- who has flet a deep connection with their horse. Rock on, Linda, and keep writing.

Rating: Summary: Ignore the subtitle! Review: Fortunately I was guided by gut feeling to buy this book unseen, having heard nothing about it, and skeptical from the subtitle...but I got a LOT out of this book! A better subtitle might have been, "A Groundbreaking Exploration of the Horse/Human Continuum." She is a terrific writer, interweaving studies and research on all manner of topics (including brain chemistry!) with carefully chosen stories of her own and others' search for healing, wholeness and eventually, joy. Her whole thrust is that the unique way that horses are made, makes them uniquely able to detect and mirror peoples' emotional states. Why is this such a big deal? Because, as she conclusively shows, people ARE their emotions, despite modern-day close-mindedness about it. Not only does she explore the new and powerful profession of equine-assisted therapy of the mind, body and heart, but she also explores training methods, our historical and current view of horses' use, the interaction between the very different species of people and horse, and a very unusual but extremely interesting intuitive approach to ourselves, our horses and indeed, life and the planet. This is a rather intellectual work; quite in-depth and well-studied. If you want a feel-good horse-and-rider story, look elsewhere. If you want to really dig into people issues, horse issues and the interface between them, you've come to the right place. Oh, and the second and third reading are even better than the first!
Rating: Summary: new age mumbo jumbo Review: I am certain there are enough alienated wealthy suburban white women who will buy into this. God knows the aging baby boomers are reaching at anything that will make them feel that 'connection'. How many times can this author plug her business in this book? After a simple check of her website I've learned that you too can play bingo with a horse, only after charging you an obscene amount of money. And maybe if you're lucky the 'horse ancestors' will visit...this is where this book completely lost me in a vortex of new age touchy feely mumbo jumbo. Horse ancestors? Maybe if I believe enough, and if I pay enough, maybe I can see them too. I've always held fast the entire new age movement is an extremely clever marketing scam designed to suck gulliable yuppies out of their money. It seems these yuppies in question line up to whatever pop culture 'expert' or guru they can find and shell out lavish amounts of money only to be duped in the end. I think reruns of Mister Ed will suffice for me.
Rating: Summary: mind expanding Review: I am SO glad I paid no attention to the nay-sayer reviews!! Linda Kohanove pulls together a wide awareness of human psychology, quantuum physics, and Jungian myth to present a deep awareness of not only equine/human interrelations but also human/human and human/world interrelations. From the equine standpoint, she is taking Alois Podhjasky, the Dorrance brothers, Rashid, etc. to a much higher level, can I say a spiritual?, and giving thought behind what Klaus Ferdinand Hempfling teaches in his fantastic Dancing With Horses. No, this is NOT a 'how-to' cook-book, but rather a thought-full and thought provoking tome which can truly expand the mind of those willing to accept the challenge. It is one which I will encourage all readers of our monthly Farm Newsletter to read. It is one which I will stress as vitally important for all those who purchase one of our foals, youngsters or broodstock to read so they can experience these wonderful creatures to their deepest extent. We've bred AQHA horses for 40 years and I've been active in spiritual healing for over 20 years. I found Ms. Kohanov's concepts to be very familiar, although not articulated in quite the same way within my myself, and bless her for having the courage and foresight to put into print some absolutely cutting-edge, yet ancient, concepts.
Rating: Summary: The Tao of Equus Review: I bought this book hoping that I was going to learn something about communication with my horse based on the authors own experience and personal journeys but as it turns out it is more of her own difficulties and it seems like the horse is more along for the ride. I think the book has the wrong title. It should be the Tao of Linda - then it would make more sense and be helpful to people who are trying to deal with inner problems. The title is misleading in that you think it is about the way of the horse itself. It is well written, but not what I was looking for or expecting to read.
Rating: Summary: A powerful book for all Review: I don't think I've ever been as fascinated, disturbed, and deeply moved as I was when reading this book. I never went through a "crazy-for-horses" phase as a teen, but Ms. Kohanov has taught me a great deal about the deep bonds, history, and mutual support that exist between humans and horses. She reports some fascinating research about the nature of "mind" as well. I am in awe of an author who can write so well, especially about nonverbal experiences, AND who has helped so many people and horses overcome their traumas and confusion. I will be putting this book into the hands of several of my friends and loved ones.
