Rating: Summary: This Book Will EDUCATE You Review: I bought this book after getting engaged and feeling overwhelmed. This book opened my eyes! It tells you exactly what the bridal industry is like and how to save money and still have the wedding of your dreams. I have folded and sticky noted almost every page in it, and refer to it before I make a purchase. This book is a goldmine, and I recommend it to everyone!
Rating: Summary: This book hits the mark!! Review: This is truly a great book. Because this book is NOT sponsored by anybody, they have no obligation to talk up any one manufacturer or another. They tell it like it is; no holds barred. My husband & I paid for our own wedding and had a limited budget, but it didn't look like it. We heard people comment, "Wow! You must have spent a ton of money." It made us feel good about it. In addition to saving money, this books warns you of various pitfalls to watch out for.I buy this book for all my friends when they get engaged. This book is so great, I bought their "Baby Bargains" book when I got pregnant. That book is even better! You can't afford to not buy this book; trust me!
Rating: Summary: An educated bride is a happy bride! Review: In an overwhelming world of wedding advice books, planners, and websites, this book is all you need. It empowered me with the knowledge I needed to have the wedding I wanted, without falling into the trap of thinking that the more money you spend, the better your day will be. Do not empty your pockets to this deceptive industry preying on women who dream about their one big day! Because I read their book (twice!) I saved 35% on my dream gown, 40% on my girl's gowns, and 20% on my invitations, and bought flowers from a wholesaler. Not only did this book help me save money, but more importantly, it enlightened me with the TRUTH about the wedding industry and how to navigate through it. An educated bride is a happy bride!
Rating: Summary: THE only book you'll need to plan your wedding Review: Stop searching, you've found THE book that will help you plan your wedding from A-Z. I used it for my 9/2000 wedding and then passed it on to friends who are getting married 6/1/02. They said, without exception, out of all the books I gave them, this was THE one they used the most. I found the same to be true. I sorted through many many books prior to my wedding and if your budget is tight and you have only one book to buy, make this the one. You will NOT be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! Review: Having bought this book for many engaged friends over the years, I finally had a chance to use it for my own wedding. It took the stress away from learning how to plan, select and negotiate with vendors and made me feel more in control of OUR event. With just a few months before the wedding, I can sleep well at night knowing that we'll have everything we hoped to accomplish and stay on a budget. Now, all we've got is the follow up. Your commentary and sound advice de-mystified the steps involved and educated this nerevous consumer. I could not thank you enough! (p.s. just ordered it for another friend!).
Rating: Summary: Finally! A book with some substance! Review: From page one this book is full of REALISTIC ways to save and pitfalls to avoid. She tells you about the loopholes the vendors use to get more money from you - and believe me no matter how big or small the town they will try. I feel much more knowledge when talking to vendors. And I've already saved about $500 by taking the advice she gives! I highly recommend buying this book first and foremost.
Rating: Summary: Whether your a beatnik or a diva, this is THE book for you! Review: I am ALL about ceremony, ritual and throwing big parties, so I have EVERY intention of making our wedding quite the to-do...on a budget. Until I happened to pick up this book (on sale for [money], no less), I thought my budget was going to determine my wedding. This book is short on pictures but long on money-saving options. If you want a couture gown with yards of silk, it tells you where to go and what to do (no law-breaking here!)to get the gown at 30% or more off! If you are crafty and know exactly what you want to do, but don't know where to get the supplies, it tells you. Basically, take the information bonanza of a Bridal Expo, remove the drama, and add an attention to ALL financial situations, and you have this book. This, coupled with Gertrud Nelson & Chris Witt's _Sacred Threshold_, is all you will need to have a meaningful, stylish, elegant and affordable wedding!
Rating: Summary: No need to buy any other wedding planning book! Review: I bought this book after reading the reviews of others and was so glad I did! It is not only helpful in planning your wedding and saving money, but also in opening your eyes to the wedding industry. It made me feel like I was an informed consumer before going out spending my money. It is a very PRACTICAL book so if you're looking for pretty photos, this is not your book. But if you want practical advice you can use and a reference book to use throughout your planning, this is the ONLY book you need! Be sure to check out their website too...There message board has tons of helpful advice from other brides. You can also email the authors. They wrote me back an email, which really impressed me. Don't throw your money away by getting other wedding planning books!
Rating: Summary: fun to read, and great for brides on a budget Review: I would enjoy reading this book even if I wasn't getting married, because it's full of interesting dirt on the wedding industry. If you're on a strict budget, this book will be very useful to you. But if you're starry-eyed about planning your wedding, you might want to stay away, because the book will make you aware of all kinds of schemes your seemingly nice caterers might be pulling, and maybe you don't want to know!
Rating: Summary: Purchased as a gift. Review: I purchased this book as a gift for my niece. She liked the book -- but it isn't a must buy -- there are other books out there.
