Rating: Summary: The Only Book You Need! Review: If you buy only one book, this would be it. Simply put, it's THE go-to guide for everything wedding. The authors have done their homework and are able to share the ins and outs of the wedding industry with you. As a newly engaged girl (with so many options in wedding books), I had no idea which ones were good and which ones weren't helpful. I actually checked this out at the library (sorry Amazon) and then realized that I had to have a copy of my own. The chapter on wedding dresses is probably one of the most insightful in ANY book I've seen. Additionally, their resources on cheap bridesmaid dresses will make you a favorite bride among your friends. My only suggestion is not to read this before you go to bed! I have spent many a night awake and sleepless thinking about my wedding...and thinking about how they can save me big bucks!
Rating: Summary: A must-read! Review: This book is FANTASTIC! The money-saving tips are fine, but the thing I loved most about it was the way it breaks down every aspect of the wedding-planning prospect. When I first got engaged, I had no clue where to even start planning. This book was soooo helpful - it gives a terrific overview of each part of the process (church, reception, invitations, caterer, photographer, florist, dress, etc.), questions to ask, things to be wary of, etc. I esp. loved the analysis of all the major bridal gown manufacturers and what to look for in a good dress. I used this to prep for every meeting I had with a vendor, and it really gave me confidence that I was asking the right questions and not missing any detail. It also helped my fiance and I (who were paying for our own wedding) to have a beautiful wedding without breaking the bank.
Rating: Summary: The most helpful book I have found Review: This, by far, is the best book I have found for planning a wedding. It helps you find the best bargins and web sites. It even has a detachable questions list to ask the caterer, photographer, etc. The section on wedding dresses is also very informative. I have bought every book under the sun and this was absolutly the best!
Rating: Summary: This is the only book you need! Review: This book saved me money on everything from flowers to centerpieces, I saved more than $$$ on my invitations alone. Although I'm not bold enough to lie to florists and tell them I'm booking a retirement dinner, I did park my fiance's nice car out of sight of the florist's shop. Additionally, this book was very helpful in that it gave lists of questions to ask photographers, caterers, etc. After looking through this book, I never picked up another one. It's quite dog-eared now. I recommend it to anyone planning a wedding -- even if your budget is lavish, there's no reason to throw money away!
Rating: Summary: Go Ahead and cancel your Bridal Magazines NOW! Review: After collecting at least a dozen wedding books, and subcribing to nearly all of the magazines, I found this book. What a lifesaver. It told me everything the magazines didn't about saving money- and didn't go down the usual road of "save by having your wedding in the middle of winter, on a Wednesday, and have the local high school home-ec class make your dress." This book gives great- realistic ways to save money while planning a fabulous wedding. I've recommended it to anyone I know getting married.
Rating: Summary: Planning Lifesaver Review: This book is not as helpful for people with limited time for wedding planning. However, if you're like me, and have a year or more, BUY THIS BOOK. A lot of the advice is common sense, but it also offers crucial tips on how to wade your way through flood of B.S. the Wedding Industry lays on brides to be. This is an especially good guide for those brides and grooms who would like to throw Martha and Ms. Manners' rules of proper wedding ettiquite right out a 12 story window.
Rating: Summary: Stop looking! This is THE only wedding book you need! Review: If you buy only one wedding guide buy this one. Every sentence of this 400+ page book is worth its weight in gold! This is the most comprehensive wedding guide on the market. Whether you are trying to save money or not this book takes you on an insider's tour of the racket the authors like to call the 'Wedding Industrial Complex'. Through years of researching services they tell you what to look for, ask and expect from vendors and let you in on discount services and websites. More importantly it exposes any scams a vendor might pull to rip you off. The 140+ pages on dress shopping were the biggest eye opener to me. Above all its very easy to understand and well organized. Thank you Denise Fields and Alan Fields! I could not have planned my wedding without this book!
Rating: Summary: Just Getting Started Review: Bridal Bargains is a great way to start your wedding planning. It uses a lighthearted, matter-of-fact approach to present several tips and hints on how to search for good wedding deals. Positives: clever ideas to help you brainstorm; pre-printed checklists for different wedding aspects (e.g., what to ask the caterer, what to ask the photographer, etc.); average cost of specific wedding items; and lots of web sites. Other books to try: (1) The Unofficial Guide to Planning Your Wedding, (2) The Everything Wedding Checklist, and (3) Emily Post's Wedding Etiquette.
Rating: Summary: Great Reference! Review: This was a big help for my sister's wedding. If you're tying the knot, this is a must read along with In-Law Drama the novel.
Rating: Summary: Really Great Info!! Review: I ordered 4 Bridal books, and this one was my favorite. It has great info on saving money, reviews, and wedding websites. It has a guarantee to refund your money for the book if it doesn't save you $500 on your wedding! How can you pass up a book like that!? I really enjoyed the tone of the book - down to earth, conversational, friendly - yet not flippant and superficial. This does have some planning advice - but the main value for this book is to make sure that you get not only the best price for what you buy - but the best quality and customer care as well. I consider this a must, along with a good wedding planner that has lists to check off.
