Rating: Summary: A wonderful, readible joy Review: I am so glad I caught the tiny review for this book in a newspaper last March (2003). Bridal Bargains is great for anyone planning a wedding, whether you're on a budget or not. The numerous tips this book offers on gowns alone make it invaluable. Each chapter is thorough without being monotonous, and funny without being cute. The things you learn in this book about the wedding industry are so unbelievable, you won't forget them, which will serve you well once you get ready to hire that caterer or alter that gown. It's pretty horrifying to see how many pitfalls there are, but the Fields are determined to arm you with all the information you need. It's an incredible resource.
Rating: Summary: Illegal AND Immoral! Review: Although this book offers a lot of good ideas to get you going on saving money, there are some preposterous ones in the chapter on music. The authors actually suggest you burn a bunch of MP3s onto a series of cds to play for your reception to save money; an idea that is not only immoral but also illegal! As a musician and bride myself, I can tell you that artists are really suffering from the reality of people burning music illegally through services like Napster without purchasing it. No proceeds go to the artist when you do this, and you're taking away the only income some of these people have. Remember that even the big artists sometimes need the money; look at how the Beatles fared... What's going to happen to these musicians when people stop purchasing their music altogether? Also, the authors suggest that 'musicians can figure out how to pay for their meals the other six days of the week; why should you have to feed them?'. I can tell you that when I play a wedding, I'm usually in for upwards of five hours, starting before dinner and lasting until well after... where do they expect me to find a meal? Order in some pizza? Also, I can also tell you that most gigs I do, whether it's in a bar, a restaurant or a large theatre, the site provides the musicians with (at the very least) a free beer. Catering is provided for large shows, and in restaurants and bars there's usually the option to eat something from the menu on the house. THAT's how we find meals the other six nights. I was appalled. I certainly plan on both paying AND feeding my hard-working, well-deserving musicians who provide me and all my guests with a night of fantastic entertainment.
Rating: Summary: This book deserves 500 stars! Review: This book is very helpful and informative if you want to learn how to actually save money on your wedding. Their tips are actually useful! They know how to help you to save while not sacraficing quality. If you buy only one wedding book, make it this one!
Rating: Summary: Fantastic!!! Review: This book helped me save way more then $500.00 on my wedding. I ended up buying it for both of my best friends for their weddings! They saved a bundle too!
Rating: Summary: 10 STARS Review: Throw all the other books away and just keep this one handy where ever you go!!! This is a must have book for all bride-to-be!! So informative! Everything you need and must know is all in here!!!
Rating: Summary: Great resource! Review: This book is worth it's weight in gold. It has real, honest information about the potential deals and scams out there in the bridal industry. I'm so glad I picked it up. I definately recommend it. One caveat: It does seem to be aimed at those who want a "designer" or brand name wedding at discounted prices. If, like me, you want a less expensive wedding and don't really care about brands, you may need an additional resource. Nonetheless, it's a terrific book.
Rating: Summary: Don't go any further Review: The first place to go when you get engaged: book shopping! Get this book and read it FIRST. You will see the traps that can catch you. Although I had an older edition, that book allowed us to have a great wedding on what we can afford. After this book, check out some of Diane Warner's books, and of course, Craft an Elegant Wedding and other books along those lines. You do NOT have to spend $10,000+ to get marred.
Rating: Summary: AWESOME!!!! Review: This book is so revealing and interesting! I am only half way though this book, but so far it's great. I am actually reading it like a novel or biography. If you are planning on getting married ever or if you have a friend that is engaged, buy them this book.
Rating: Summary: The one MUST-HAVE for wedding planning! Review: I cannot stress enough how helpful this book is for planning a wedding. It really opened my eyes to how the wedding industry rips off its customers. So many brides (including me before I read this book) are so blinded by their dreams of a fairy-tale wedding that they fail to realize that the wedding industry is going to do everything it can to take advantage of that blindness. This book shows you practical, realistic ways to save money without compromising on your wedding dreams. I urge all brides, grooms, and parents to read this book before they even start their shopping.
Rating: Summary: Best guide for brides Review: Having married in 1997, I used the older edition of this book, and it was wonderful! Based on my experience, I have recommended this book (and lent my older edition) to countless other new brides who have all found the cost-saving tips as valuable as I did five years ago! In my opinion, it is the best book available for new brides - gives great information and tips on how to save money but still have the wedding of your dreams. And for later on, these same authors also have a book called Baby Bargains - also indispensable for finding good deals and ratings on baby clothing and accessories!
