Summary: THIS is the one!
Review: This book is packed with useful information! They really know what they are talking about, and also give you direct links to places that can save you money.

I can not reccommend this book strongly enough. I wish I hadn't wasted my money on any of the other books and only got this book. The book is a life saver.

Summary: Get THIS book, and ONLY this book
Review: I wasted too much money buying books with vapid or just plain insultingly stupid advice "Why not throw a picnic instead of hiring a caterer!!" etc.

Bridal Bargains is the ONLY book with tons of real advice. This book has links to online bridal shops that can save you tons of money, and loads of realistic advice.

This is the only book you need for researching bridal bargains. PERIOD.

Summary: They should rename the book the Bridal Shopping Bible!!
Review: I purchased this book near the beginning of my bridal search. They have a plethora of useful advice. Yes, I did go to a bridal salon and called a couple of others and the advice was right on target. I will always recommend that brides shop online to compare prices, you'd be shocked! Bridal bargains makes us aware of the "tricks of the trade." I know I'll get swindled somewhere, but I feel I was a little more informed about the process with this book by my side.

Summary: A Wedding Planning Bible
Review: As an event planner since the 80's, I've been aware of Denise & Alan Field's book for quite some time. The newest edition is just as useful now as their first one was years ago.

Long, long ago ... before the Internet ... planning your wedding was a local endeavor where you were at the mercy of Bridal Show exhibitors. If you were lucky, you could get truthful information from couples who'd already gone through the process. If you were lucky.

Bridal Bargains took the secrecy out of wedding planning and exposed it to the light of common sense and economic forces.

This book is the first one I recommend to the wedding planning classes I teach, the first one I used myself, and the most comprehensive I've found to date.

Now they've added a plethora of web site addresses.

Yes, web sites come and go, but an afternoon spent flipping through the book and trying various sites (and I compared them with a few other books who provide web address information) found this book to have the highest number of 'live' addresses. When time is at a premium, this is an important factor.

I noticed that a previous reviewer wasn't happy with the amount of the book dedicated to buying a wedding dress. I can certainly understand that, but with the majority of brides purchasing from bridal shops, discounters, and major manufacturers, this information needs to be exhaustive.

In the 22 years I've been 'doing' weddings, I have had less than 15 brides have dresses specially made for them, perhaps another 12 who wore suits or a dress not designated as 'bridal', and maybe 9 who wore a dress belonging to a Mom, Grandmother, or other family member. Denise & Alan's emphasis on dress manufacturers reflects the reality of the market.

All in all, this is a book well worth the price. Use it and save yourself time, money, and stress.

Summary: can i give it 20 stars?!?!
Review: this is my whole grail wedding planner book. i have refered back to it time and time again when looking for things. i even had a photographer ask me how i knew so much about picture taking!!! it was all b/c of this book that i knew what questions to ask. i saved about $400 on my dress b/c i used a website that they recommended. and i also only paid $52 for my tiara and veil online since they steered me away from the $200+ ones at the bridal salons. there are a lot of things that i leanred from this book that have better prepared me now that i am searching for a DJ and baker so that i don't get screwed over. if you are getting married...buy this. i have saved a ton of money and so will you!!!

Summary: Wonderful and Helpful!
Review: This was the first "wedding" book I bought, and the one I used the most. It is far and away more useful than the other books on the market, and funnier. This book answers basic questions about the wedding planning process, and gives lists of questions YOU should ask service providers when negotiating with them. I have loaned this book to several friends and family members, and recommended it to many more. If you are planning a wedding, you need this book!

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Not for everyone
Review: This book is geared toward people planning weddings vastly different from mine. Most of it focuses on how to get the best deals from vendors (caterers, photographers, florists, and so on). Nothing in it really applied to the kind of wedding I'm planning: an ultra-simple wedding in an outdoor setting, with no cut flowers, no limos, no formalwear, no liquor, and no wedding party. For instance, it devoted about 130 pages (roughly a third of its length) to wedding apparel, with a focus on dealing with bridal salons. It barely mentions the possibility of wearing anything other than the traditional huge, white, wear-it-once-and-pack-it-away wedding gown. For someone who wants a typical fancy wedding, I'm sure the tips in this book could add up to big savings, but for someone like me, who doesn't want to go the traditional route, it's pretty much useless.

Summary: Helpful could use updating
Review: This book is helpful but can use some updating. I thought it really did cover most of the important topics. It's nice to see someone practical when it comes to weddings. Some of the books you read would require 3 mortgages on your home just to pay for the ideas they have!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: VERY USEFUL!!!
Review: Aside from my planner book, this was my most favorite bridal book becuase it covers EVERYTHING and everything at a bargain!!! I got so many little tips and money-saving tips out of this book. Definitely a must have for any bride who is planning her own weddig.

Summary: Thumbs Up to Bridal Bargains
Review: What a fantastic book! Although it runs the risk of scaring the would-be bride or groom too much of all the scams out there, this resource is one of the best I've found. The extensive wedding gown section alone is worth the price of the book. Bridal Bargains covers every area of wedding planning, from cakes to ceremonies. Each section covers ways to save, pitfalls to avoid, and questions to ask your vendor.

The gown section offers many more ways to buy a gown than a simple trip to the bridal salon. Discount stores, seamstresses, trunk shows, and the biannual rush at Filene's are all covered in detail. Numerous discount websites are listed, with reviews of their content and service. Plus, the bride may educate herself on common practices of bridal salons, making her a savvier customer.

This book is written in a frank and funny manner. For once, reading a wedding book, the reader is taken seriously as a fellow adult. Unlike many bridal magazines, the authors never condescend to the reader. They talk straight to you, bypassing all the commercially-driven fantasies that most other resources contain. As I understand it, the authors frequently update this book and welcome feedback from their readers. I have nothing but praise for the book, but I'll be sure to write in if I come upon any unlisted bridal bargains.
