Rating: Summary: A must, no matter the budget Review: No matter how much money you have, if you do not enjoy getting screwed over by evil shopkeepers and devious consultants, buy this book. I am constantly surprised at how people will try to fleece brides, with the thought, "Well, she's only getting married once, it's not like I have to keep her as a customer!" Stories in this book will scare you with tales of lost money, missing dresses, and deception worthy of international spies! But even better than just informing you as to how you can identify a scam when you see it, this book gives you weapons to combat the scam-artists! This book takes time to rate the big bridal gown makers (as does its excellent "sequel," also by the Fields, on finding a quality bridal gown), tell you about ways to check out your florist, etc. It also provides money saving ideas which are invaluable and numerous. Comes with a money-back guarantee, which should speak volumes for the helpfulness of the book. Get this book and save yourself money, time, and tears.
Rating: Summary: Greatest bridal book I've found yet! Review: This was the first book I bought for planning my wedding that's still a year and a half off. I found the information very helpful. The book gives ideas for people who want the very fancy wedding, and those who have a smaller budget. The book covers everything that any bride-to-be and her man needs to know before they get to the big day. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to save money and still have a great wedding.
Rating: Summary: HELPED ME IN A REALISTIC WAY. Review: I love the way that they put every question you need to ask the different services you will use to get your moneys worth.Things i wouldnt think of. There are so many tips that i will use in this book. And that flower service is much better than growing your own!
Rating: Summary: Very Helpful! Review: This book DOES NOT promote a tacky wedding but does educate the average consumer on ways we can save money. Denise and Alan Fields point out so much useful information that I plan to use at my wedding and I cannot believe someone would suggest that the things they encourage are tasteless. I think viewing a d.j. at a wedding (you can merely see the individual set up - you don't stay to watch the whole thing) is a great way to observe and know what you're paying for. There is a money back guarantee too! If you don't save $500, they'll refund the cost of the book. I think it's extremely invaluable and the best book (I've bought 5 now!) that I have purchased.
Rating: Summary: Excellent advice for saving money! Review: I read this book, as well as "Bridal Gown Guide" and "Far and Away Weddings" by the same authors. I recommend this book the most highly of all three. It is full of useful information on how to be prepared for the whole process of planning your wedding, and how to assure that you're getting what you want at the price you want it. As for tacky suggestions, well, I've seen "wedding on a budget" books that are chock full of tacky and ridiculous suggestions. This is not one of them. If you think something you read in this book is tacky, ignore it and move on. And yes, there is a money-back guarantee!
Rating: Summary: I would have voted ZERO stars, but I wasn't given the choice Review: This book should be re-named " Tacky Weddings-R-US "! Besides being offensively frugal, the tone of the book is rather paranoid. Is there a money back guarantee on this book ? As far as I'm concerned, there should be. ALSO....the reason you don't see too many bad reviews is the authors have them removed !
Rating: Summary: Fantastic!! Review: A lot of money saving tips and a VERY REALISTIC view of the bridal industry.
Rating: Summary: Tackiest Wedding Book I've Read So Far Review: Not only is this book terribly jaded and paranoid, but some of the suggestions made are truly tacky. For instance, they suggest that you arrange with your band/dj to visit SOMEONE ELSE'S WEDDING RECEPTION to see how they perform. Think about it: how would you feel if a complete stranger showed up at your wedding reception to review the band/dj you were paying to entertain you? As far as I'm concerned, the band/dj can do their advertising on their own time. And that's just one example. There isn't a whole lot in this book that isn't common sense. My advice: skip this wedding book.
Rating: Summary: should have bought the gown guide Review: Although I agree that some of the book is paranoid about bridal scams, I did appreciate the inside advise on how dresses are ordered and some of the politics that can cause a dress to be late. Other suggestions were over the edge (rent a limo from a funeral home) or irrational (not many photographers let you hire them for labor only). I think I would have benefitted more from the gown guide, as the other tips were things you can find out about on the internet sites.
Rating: Summary: I LOVED THIS BOOK Review: My maid of honor sent this to me, and it has been my "bible" during the wedding planning process. Lots of great urls and suggestions; loved the checklists of things to ask vendors and things to beware of. DBS for wedding gowns was one of the best tips: I saved $200 off retail on the dress alone! Also loved that this book exposes many scams I would not have otherwise been aware of. My single best resource- I would recommend it for EVERYONE.
