Rating: Summary: Mainly for people not familiar with event planning, etc. Review: This book has some good tips but it's mostly targeted at individuals who really don't know much about event planning and bargain hunting. Solutions to many of the problems cited simply require common sense, bargain hunting skills, and experience with salespeople. This easy-to-use reference guide is inexpensive enough to check out for just a few tips. Bottom line about an inexpensive wedding: don't expect to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
Rating: Summary: Excellent advice for saving money and spotting scams Review: This was the first book I purchased after getting engaged; and I haven't been sorry. The advice is realistic and helpful. The authors descibe many ways save money with sacrificing beauty or elegance. To all those who've called this book tacky...get real. The bridal industry is FOR PROFIT. Consumers need to be able to make informed decisions. If the tone of the book was a bit paranoid, I'm grateful...I'd rather know what to look out for than wander around with my eyes glazed over, dreaming of hearts and flowers benevolent wedding vendors. Three cheers for this book!
Rating: Summary: Save Money and Energy on a High Class Wedding Review: By far the most useful of my 20 or so bridal books. The Fields help brides find the nicest items for their wedding at the lowest price; they don't have cost saving strategies like "serve pasta" or "have your cousin take the pictures"; they helped me get my $900 dress for $450 by ordering online; likewise my $175 bridesmaid dresses for $94. Great organization, great web links. Fun, light style.
Rating: Summary: A must-have for any bride-to-be. Review: I wish I had bought this book before wasting so much time reading bridal magazines and "wedding planners." It's nice to have someone give down-to-Earth advice. All my other so-called "wedding guides" are going in the trash.
Rating: Summary: This book FANTASTIC! Review: This was the first book I bought after I got engaged. As I've approached each 'piece' of the wedding plans (ceremony, invitations, apparel, etc.) I've read the corresponding chapter in this book. It gives you some great advice on what to do/what not to do and also some brillant money saving tips. It's a must buy for any bride-to-be.
Rating: Summary: A Must Have! Review: Of my approximately 10 books that I have purchased in preparation for my upcoming wedding, this book is the one that is the most helpful. The book is structured in the way that you will prioritize you wedding tasks. The book rates each of the major designers and has given me (the no-not of wedding gowns) a good sense for what kind of gown I want. The book also gets into the scary tactics of the bridal stores, and after reading the section pertaining to them, I did in fact realize some shady tactics in stores that I visited ( I was so mad!). I was thrilled to find less expensive ways to order the gown of my dreams (DBS) and I will utilize each chapter in this book to educate me on what to do and what to look for. Whether it be the attire, stationary or reception site - this book has it all and they truly tell it like it is. If you are like me and planning your wedding (and paying for it) yourself - then invest in this book and you will not be sorry you did.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Bridal Budget Saver! Review: This is a must-buy book for a bride-to-be! It provides many cost-cutting ideas to help you manage your dream wedding budget. The most eye-opening chapter was the one dealing with bridal gowns which grades manufacturers from A to C-). It contains many money-savings tips for your ceremony and reception sites, wedding flowers, invitations, catering, photography, cakes, videos, entertainment, and transportation. Don't get married without first buying this book!
Rating: Summary: Can we get REAL, please? Review: This book is truly tacky! The tone almost sounds like tabloid reporting. Yes, there are scams in the bridal industry, but not everything is a scam! I think the Fields' need to stick to a field they have credentials in...it seems that this book was written by a former bride who is looking to capitalize on making others paranoid. I say PASS ON THIS ONE, DEFINITELY!
Rating: Summary: Great tips! Buy It! Review: This is the first book I bought...even before I was engaged. It provides plenty of useful hints and tips for all the services you will need for your wedding. Since I am in Canada, I especially liked the section at the back that was especially for Canadian Brides. The book is great value, you for sure will save money, heartache and time after reading this book!
Rating: Summary: If you are planning a wedding, READ THIS BOOK Review: I strongly suggest anyone who is planning a wedding to READ THIS BOOK! I planned my own wedding last year and purchased this book. It was not only a tool that helped me save money, but also gave valuable tips on wedding planning. The information was very helpful and informative. If your budget is $1000.00 or $100,000.00, this book should be read. There are so many wedding vendors who know that brides are vulnerable and take advantage of the situation by charging outrageous prices on everything. This book helps you to know when you are being scammed. I especially liked the bridal gown chapter. Their reviews on all of the bridal gown manufaturers are very fair and accurate.
