Summary: AN ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE!
Review: An aquaintance lent me this book when I got engaged. I started reading it and realized that I had to have my own copy. It helped me get a 2500.00 wedding dress for 442.00!, along with many other huge savings. It covers every area of the wedding and is written very well. My advise is simple: If you are getting married, BUY THIS BOOK NOW. It will be the best 12.00 or so bucks you spend. I guarantee it.

Summary: Helpful but not the bible
Review: I found the dress section to be incredibly helpful. I went to a very reputable and expensive full dress salon that carries gowns from $1500 to $8,000 (way out of my range) during a time when they were selling their sample gowns, and found a top designer gown off the rack for 50% off that fit me like a glove. Therefore my dress was already in house so I didnt have to worry about shipping, alterations were minimal, and done very professionally because the shop's reputation was so good. HOWEVER, I agree with the reviewer who said "you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear:" if you're going to go to cheaper shops to get a cheaper items, don't be surprised at bad service! You do get what you pay for! i'm not saying that there aren't places that try to rip you off, but sometimes spending just a bit extra for a place with a better reputation saves you much aggrivation. I do find the book's tone to be paranoid and tacky at times, but am thankful to be made aware of possible scams.

Summary: This book was my bible. . .
Review: I used the 4th edition to plan my wedding last year, and was able to save a considerable amount of money. To be honest, I was amazed to find several negative reviews stating the book was "tacky" and "paranoid". Everytime one of my friends becomes engaged I send a copy to them as an engagement gift, and they all love it too. By following most of the Fields advice, we had the wedding we wanted for a reasonable price. Most of the scams they discuss I encountered. Such as the charge to cut a cake if you don't use the caterers baker. They are especially on target about Bridal shops. After spending over $1,400.00 for my dress, shoes, veil, and alterations, the repairs that the shop assured me would be made to my dress, were never made. Even though I had provided them with a detailed list of needed repairs and writing a letter to the shop manager expressing my concern that these repairs would not be done. I had to spend the day before my wedding back at the the bridal shop, and stand there and watch to make sure the repairs were done. Their advice on saving money on the reception was fabulous. We found a site that allowed us to provide our own alochol and only pay for the bartender. Our total bill for champagne, wine, and beer was only $350.00.

The unfortunate reality of the bridal industry is there are plenty of vendors who will rip you off, and they provide you with the advice and know how to avoid bad vendors and their scams.

Summary: Most useful wedding book I've read yet
Review: I got this book from the library (being the cost-conscious bride that I am), but I've found it so useful that I'm going to actually buy it. This is the fourth wedding book I've read, and it's by far the most informative and useful.

Summary: Great for sorting though the bridal hype
Review: This was the first book I bought in the planning of my wedding. I have found it very informative, especially the section on choosing the dress. The tips on how to save money are great, they aren't the generalizations you find in the bridal magazines or in some books. This book details practical ideas, not just grandiose ones that you can't afford. It also tells you where it's pratical to save and where it's not, such as the downfalls of doing your own catering or having a home wedding. This book is a godsend for the modern day bride trying to have a cheap wedding- no wonder the bridal industry hates them.

Summary: Great Wedding Budget Planner
Review: As the Best Man of my friend's wedding, I referred to this book in a zillion occasions for practical advice. From the wedding count-down clock to ceremony etiquette to wedding apparels and catering and limousines, this book has got it all! You might not need everything covered in this guide yet it will be very useful for almost every aspect of your wedding. I personally find the sections on reception sites and catering particularly interesting and useful. The book provides a lot of hand-on tips that are not usually commonly known. Ever wondered about a dessert reception instead of a traditional 2-entree banquet? What about a wedding being held at a local university faculty club that offers in-site catering? This is the one book that you will have to keep your fingers on throughout wedding planning. The newest edition of this book will come out this fall, yet don't worry about the up-to-date figures and costs. Focus on the variables that will directly affect the cost of your Big Day. Each topic features a section of questions to ask the service provider (i.e. florist, entertainer, DJ, caterer, reception site...) If you really want to make the most of your budget, read this book carefully and read over again.

Summary: Read the Bridal Gowns Section, Skip the Rest!
Review: This book is truly a downer. The authors' strident tones and pessimistic attitudes leave you ready to elope by the time you've finished the first chapter. However, as a former wedding gown sales consultant, I can attest that the authors do an excellent job assessing the various gown manufacturers. If you are really on a tight budget, I recommend Diane Warner's books instead. Warner is skeptical of the wedding industry, too, but her calm approach keeps the reader from becoming intimidated and overwhelmed.

Summary: Great book!
Review: I bought this book based on the good reviews and was verypleased. It recommends particularly good, cheap vendors; and also gives tons of details about all of the options to consider when it comes to just about all aspects of your wedding. For example, it talks about the different types of videographers and photographers, and the typical costs for each type...

Summary: Lots of great tips
Review: This book is a definite must read if you're engaged and planning a wedding. I bought this book and read through it marking up great ideas. This book has loads of ideas and tips to create a wedding on a budget. I still have a while to go, but even if I don't use the companies recommended in this book, the ideas are just as good. It is broken into the different aspects of a wedding from the bride's dress all the way to the honeymoon. If you want to save money and plan a budget restricted wedding, read this book before you get started.

Some of the ideas are fabulous and after I'm married I'll hand the book over to another bride to be so she can get as much use of it as I do.

Summary: Great Book (and so is their other - Bridal Gown Guide)
Review: I bought the Bridal Gown Guide (by the same authors) first, and loved it. It was my savior during my dress shopping. I ended up getting a great designer (and dress) for $500! I also used their advice to get my bridesmaids dresses for much less on-line. I love the guide gown so much, that I bought this book. This one also had great ideas, but I agree with the other person that said alot of this is common sense. I will say I used a web site they recommended to order rose petals, and it is $140 less than my florist would have been! Also, their web site has more great information that did not make it to the book! I would definitely recommend buying this right after you get engaged!
