Rating: Summary: A Must-Have! Review: When I got engaged, I looked through the library for resources and borrowed this book. It is so jam-packed with advice, information, and reviews, I had to buy my own copy. There is just too much information to remember. I have referred to it several times during my year long engagement. They cover everything from dress designers to little-known decoration sources. Besides the advice, the book is very well written. The authors are very candid and personal in their writing.
Rating: Summary: Yippee! A must have for all brides! Review: With 8 months left to go, I wish I would have bought this about 4 months ago. I love the insights into the minds of the those in the wedding business and how all they care about is the bride's money! The dress manufacturer ratings came in quite handy and caused me to change bridesmaids dresses. And I have a few tricks when I go to the florist! Every bride-to-be should have this book!
Rating: Summary: Extremely helpful! Review: This is a MUST HAVE for people planning their wedding. Not only does it save you some money, but it saves you some sanity! The best parts of the book are the places where they recommend questions to ask vendors. A photographer we interviewed complemented me on my questions, and asked where I got them from. He said he wished more people would come that prepared. I can honestly say that this book is what prepared me. It was also funny, and entertaining. Enjoy! UBC
Rating: Summary: Amazingly superb! Review: I will be forever in debt to my future sister-in-law for buying me this book! Not only is it packed with everything I've ever had a question about, but it is really FUNNY! I've chuckled my way through this book. It is a very easy read and very well organized too. I consider myself pretty savvy but there is NO WAY I would have caught onto the hundreds of scams that everyone is pulling on brides! It is sickening but now I feel confident that I won't be taken advantage of!! It has great links to online sites too. I just ordered their book Cyberbride to get even more online info. My fiance and I have very little money but big, close-knit families. (I have three brothers w/spouses and another brother with a SO!) A big wedding is a must for me and this book has really given me some great ideas for cutting the costs down BIG TIME. I will forever recommend this book to any bride! I've already sung its praises to my cousin and my younger brother will be sure to get this book too when he's ready!!
Rating: Summary: Great book for any wedding you are planning!!! Review: I am getting married in 2002 and a friend bought this book. It came just in the 'nick' of time since a lot of arrangements have not been made...This book is terrific and has tons of practical and helpful information. I am definitelly going to recommend it to all my friends who are planning a wedding!!!
Rating: Summary: Get this Book if You're Getting Married! Review: I never would claim this book to be my "bridal bible" but it sure gave me a lot to think about in terms of priorities. Did I want a full bar or a better band? Was it important to me for my friends to all wear the same dress or that they be happy with the dress *they* had to pay for? Written in an engaging style, the authors examine different routes to saving money when holding a wedding. Whether you choose all the options, or just get some new ideas, this book is well worth its cover price (which was backed by a money-back guarantee).
Rating: Summary: Worth its money! Review: My sister gave me this book (3rd edition) after she planned her wedding, and we ordered her bridesmaid dresses from the discount bridal service mentioned. Not only did we save close to $70 on each bridesmaid dress, but when I called the same service to find out about the designer gown I wanted for my upcoming wedding, the DBS had it for over $700 LESS than the bridal shop less than 20 miles away! Just making one toll-free phone call the book mentioned was worth it! I also was able to find the perfect paper and supplies for printing my own invitations and programs from the distributors' numbers that were provided here. Until you start planning, you'd be surprised at how many vendors attempt to rip you off. It's that whole "woman at the car repair shop" kind of thing. Granted there are also a couple things here and there that you will snicker at, but over all, this continues to be a great wedding advice guide! This book covers ideas and information that only the most complete wedding planner would know about!
Rating: Summary: provides some useful information Review: I did find some information that was useful, but I did read some that are suggesting couples to be dishonest. I feel that could cause bigger problem on their very important day than paying out a few extra dollars. Like telling a reception hall that the event is a retirement party rather than a wedding to get a "better deal". There is a reason why the cost is different. There is more involved with a wedding than a retirement party.(if the author wrote a book on "how to plan a retirement party", it would be very thin) coordinators are there at your wedding making sure everything is going perfect when the couple does not even realize it. Who works with the MC when annoucing the bridal party to make sure the names are correct and in order? Who makes sure the first dance and the cake cutting ceremony is at the right time? Do I need to go on? these are things that the bride and groom don't have time to handle. This is handled by the coordinators of the reception hall. Please think through carefully before considering dishonesty as an option. If a reception site is very overpriced just don't have your reception there. There are a lot of nice sites with reasonable prices.
Rating: Summary: Great book! Review: This book has been invaluable to me as I plan my wedding. I am able to speak knowledgeably and intelligently when interviewing vendors. And I feel more confident when talking to them. Also, the advice on buying a gown and navigating the bridal gown industry alone makes this book well worth the price. I highly recommend this book for any bride and groom who want a nice wedding but don't want to be ripped off.
Rating: Summary: My personal wedding bible! Review: This book goes with me EVERYWHERE! I plan on incorporating many of their money saving tips in my wedding. I am definitely going to order my gown through a bridal discounter. I am going to make all of my floral centerpieces and leave the personal flowers to the pros. I am going to order my invites online. In total, I estimate that this book will have saved me at least $2000.
