Summary: Good illustrations of application technique.
Review: Aucoin's book is beautifully laid out in a coffee table style format. Chapters include reproductions of make-up styles through the 20th century, essential tools for modern make-up application, different styles and how to achieve them, and of course pages and pages of the beautiful people he has worked on. Aucoin has a lovely sense of humor and a healthy philosophy about beauty. He also has a section on make-overs of regular people.

Summary: More than a coffee table book
Review: Beautiful! I loved this man's work, and this was a perfect showcase for the cream-of-the-crop best photos of his favorite subjects. There are plenty of larger-than-life photos of many celebrities (Susan Sarandon, Brooke Shields, Christy Turlington, Paula Porizkova, and my favorite Canadian (former)supermodel, Linda Evangelista....breathtaking!) There's also a section on basic make-up how-to's and tricks of the trade, and some great pics and anecdotes from him family life. (His mom and sisters were among the first to experience his craft) I bought this back in the mid-90's ... :) A must for anyone who loves make-up and all things beautiful. God bless Kevyn Aucoin, may he rest in peace.... he is missed.

Summary: Does not show you techniques rather it just shows pictures
Review: Does not show you techniques rather it just shows pictures! After buying this book- I was very disappointed since I thought it will show me makeup tips and tricks, rather it just shows displays of women's faces. You will waste your money on purchasing this book.

Summary: not a thorough application book
Review: I bought this book thinking that it would help me learn to apply makeup, professionally. The picutres are dramatic, but there is no advise for everyday people.

Summary: Great pictures!
Review: I bought this book to get good ideas for doing make-overs, and I was a bit disappointed. I recommend Kevin's other book, "Making Faces" if you're looking for real cosmetic help. It's much more thorough in guiding you through your make-up application. This one only proved to be useful if you're interested in Kevin's relationships and experiences with the celebrities he's worked on. Large, beautiful pictures though!

Summary: From a Modern Makeup Master
Review: I have followed Aucoin's work very closely, and as a professional makeup artist, I can say that he has picked up the brush where Way Bandy put it down. If you are a professional makeup artist, beauty/fashion photographer, model, or makeup maven, this is definitely the book to own. It has page after page of some of the industry's most sought-after faces, captured wearing some of Aucoin's best artwork. The makeup styles transcend time, yet he does manage to associate certain "looks" with specific decades. Besides supermodels, actresses and other famous faces, the book also includes faces that represent the "real" woman--including an astonishing makeover for his mother. Laid out in traditional coffee-table book style, the book is also a tremendous resource. There are a few step-by-step makeups, as well as a generous helping of tips, tricks and pointers. In addition to the stunning photography, the book is also pleasant to read. There is his wonderful "how I made it" story, as well as personal stories about encounters with his rich and famous "canvases". There is a down-to-earth quality that emanates from the words, and this was confirmed when I got the chance to meet Kevyn personally during a book signing. He's not only a tremendously talented makeup artist, but a fantastic person as well

Summary: Make-up Bible
Review: I HIGHLY recommend this book. It has been on my make-up table since it first came out. The instructions are clear, the discussions about color, texture and application are down-to-earth and easily understood. Lots of fun to read, too. Kevin comes across as a really nice person who is passionate about his art. Cured me of my make-up phobia permanently.

Summary: beautiful pictures, creative make-up and wondeerful makeovers
Review: I really like the pictures in this book, although I noticed that the instructions aren't complete so I recomend to look well at the pictures because they may include more make-up than you think. I personally prefer more variety in dramatic make-up for young people. But after all, it has become one of my favorites.
