Rating: Summary: Must-have and great gift Review: This cookbook is my all-time favorite. The book covers 700 recipes and explains in great detail how the folks at Cook's Illustrated came to achieve the "best recipe". It debunks some old cooking techniques that your mother taught you and introduces you to new methods. I cooked a New Year's Eve meal straight from the book and my guests were raving about it! I highly recommend this book to new cooks and seasoned pro's.
Rating: Summary: Wow! Review: As a registered dietitian and food science major (that loves to cook), this is the best cookbook that I have ever used. It is thorough, well-tested, and full of basics with interesting variations. I highly recommend this book to anyone that would like great recipes along with text explaining the rationale behind the recipe selection. I have found it very helpful and time saving (because I love to test recipes too!).
Rating: Summary: exellent Review: I too am impressed by this cookbook. The incredible hows and whys of each recipe are fascinating to read. Each recipe I've tried has been wonderful. I own several hundred cookbooks and this is one I know I'll open most often. HOWEVER, many of the recipes have been printed before in Pam Anderson's "The Perfect recipe"If anyone is contemplating between the 2,choose this one,as it has ALL the recipes from "perfect" and then many more.
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: This is the best cook book I have seen yet. I love the fact that all the testing is done for you. The book contains some great choices. I will be looking for the next one.
Rating: Summary: Everything you wanted to know about food... Review: I love this book! All cooking methods/techniques are researched in order to find the most effective and tasty outcome of each recipe. I like to know the science of food so this book was made for me -- it explains the whys and hows in language the amature cook can understand. I made the best meatloaf and it was outstanding! (I substituted pancetta for the bacon) I just set my sponge for the rustic country bread and I'm certain with the authors research that it will be a success. This book is a timeless authority on cooking. I am certain that twenty years from now the pages of my copy will be stained and worn from it's continued use. I would recommend this book to anyone who lives in a small town with chain restaurants who has relied on cookbooks as the only gourmet food source in their life!
Rating: Summary: Cooks Illustrated Rocks! Review: I have over 20 cookbooks on my shelves and this is by far the best one. This book provides loads of interesting and helpful editorial content as well as fabulous recipes. It has all the staples you'd expect as well as some new ones. I made Tomatoes with Mozzarella and Arugula- yum! They've also included their to-die-for recipe for chocolate chip cookies. Definitely a must-have cookbook. Thanks Amazon!
Rating: Summary: Excellent receipes; poorly indexed. Review: I found the book to have excellent recipes when I can find what I am looking for. The publishers need to redo the indexing on the book.
Rating: Summary: The Best Recipe Review: As an ex-Home Economics teacher, and owner of over 400 hard-cover cookbooks, I can reccommend this as the "best yet".I subscribe to Cook's Illustrated and admire the comprehensive methods they use in testing recipes and cooking equipment.
Rating: Summary: The Best Recipe Review: All the testing has been done for you. It is one of the best cook books to come along in years.
Rating: Summary: Best recipe book yet Review: This Christmas I received this book as a present. The more I read it , the more I like it. The only problem is that I want to try out every recipe. A great cookbook and a good read. One of my favorite presents. I highly recommend it.
