Rating: Summary: Worth every gram of fat in every single recipe....... Review: Like so many others, I stumbled on a review and had to have this beautiful book for my very own. The pictures are to die for, but can't hold a candle to the actual recipes! I started with the dips for a New Years Day gathering and have worked up to the best granola recipe ever. My stock with mooching friends has risen 200%. And after receiving a dozen Madagascar vanilla beans as a gift......they now repose in the Countessa's decoction! This lovely cookbook will be a mainstay in my gift-giving repertoire.
Rating: Summary: Maple Oatmeal Scones to die for! Review: I cook almost entirely low fat, and when I received this cookbook I was skeptical. However, a girlfriend saw Ina on the Martha Stewart Show, and asked to borrow the book. The next day she invited me for tea, and presented the salmon and turkey tea sandwiches, the coconut cupcakes and the maple oatmeal scones. Everything was...incredible. The scones melted in my mouth--the maple glaze was a unique and delicious touch--and they looked just like the photo in the book! My friend said the recipes worked perfectly. Although the scones have a pound of butter in them, I have decided that a splurge, now and then, is called for when the results taste like this.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: I grew up in the Hamptons and love this store. The cookbook is nice in that it's built on simple, fresh ingredients without any of the pretentious "Hamptons" feel. MOst recipes have less than 6-7 ingredients, and are easy to do. The photography emphasizes the food and are mouthwateringIf you like a cookbook that is easy, fresh, and unaffected, this is great.
Rating: Summary: phenomonal Review: this book has turned my husband into a vegetable lover. Get it, if for nothing else, the roasted veggie recipes, which are nothing short of an absolute delight! It was recommended by a freind and I haven't stopped thanking her yet, it's also a great gift. I intend to give it to anyone who doesn't already have it.
Rating: Summary: A great addition to my collection! Review: Truly a beautiful book, with wonderful photographs and simple instructions. Worth its price if only for the Coconut Cupcakes, the Indonesian Ginger Chicken, and the Pan-fried Onion Dip. Be warned, however -- this is NOT low-fat cooking. For example, you can easily third the butter and oil in the Pan-frien Onion Dip with no detrimental effect on taste. Do use it for entertaining -- you will get rave reviews but still avoid a thickening waistline.
