Rating: Summary: The perfect book to read when you need a boost... Review: I got this book today and got sucked into it immediately. I can't put it down. It's adorable! A completely endearing spoof of modern art, and still I find myself wanting to give MY cats paint! I think I especially like it because I have a B.A. in Art History (as well as two cats that own ME). I highly recommend it. It will definitely cheer you up if you need cheering (like I did)!
Rating: Summary: A beautiful book! Review: I grabbed this book because about 5 years ago I was told about it, and it sounded amazing. As a cat lover, I love anything on cats (of course), and have a wide range of cat and kitten books. This is a different and unusual book. I am SO glad I got it. I am absolutely amazed with the photographs. I have to admit I haven't read it cover to cover yet, I'm still wrapped up in the pictures, but from what I have read, it's beautifully written. This is a musthave for catlovers. A wonderful, brilliant and splendid book!8/10
Rating: Summary: An exquisite addition to the wonders of the feline world! Review: I have been involved with cats since I was born especially being the only child - they were my family along with animals in general. This book is a delight to read and I often bring it out and wonder at the pictures and accounts of the feline artists. I love to paint myself and often turn to it to escape from the stress of working in the animal shelter environment. One day one of my cats, named Romeo, wandered over and started playing in my paints. Normally I would have shooed him away but this book opened my eyes to the depth of our whiskered pals. I allowed him to play with the paint (non-toxic) and he promptly patted the red paint and touched me leaving what looked like little paw hearts all over my arm. It totally thrilled me and now all 8 of my cats enjoy the pastime of liquid colors. This book was so very enjoyable and eye-opening that I reccomend it to all animal lovers alike!! Rating: Summary: Perfect gift for catlovers Review: I have several friends who adore and love their cats, and I picked up this book at a museum store.... We had a great time reading the book, the pictures are fabulous, and the text is very interesting as well. I highly recommend it as a gift, or for yourself.
Rating: Summary: a good catire Review: I love how so many people read the book in full seriousness--and that lots in that group thought it was great! Just displays the effectiveness of understated satire and the genius of its subtle form--how it succeeds on many levels. Saturday Night Live-type comedy, take note please.
Rating: Summary: Great hit with artists with paws! Review: I really enjoyed this book *got it as a gift*. After showing it to several artist friends of mine, it became a huge hit! The content of the book goes over several real live cats who make a profession of painting *on canvas, walls, and bathtubs*. It also includes historical records concerning instances of cats painting (Egyptian, Chinese, and English). It contains many colorful photos of frisky felines with an attitude towards the 2-D arts *and some 3-D as well!* One has to see this book to believe it! it is a wonderful addition to any feline artist's library!
Rating: Summary: Exceptional & Beautifully Done! Review: I skimmed this book while on a press check and being a cat-lover, I never forgot about the book. It's beautiful and sweet and you'll find yourself wanting to hug the kitty-artisans on the colorful pages within. A memorable coffee table piece!
Rating: Summary: Cats with Colors Review: I'd really probably only give this 3 1/2 stars. Great photos. Extremely interesting read until the last part of the book where it begins talking about the specific "artists" and in-depth interpretations of their style. At that point it becomes ridiculous to me, but still amusing and it does not loose its facination points. Overall a very intruiging book.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant Review: If Christopher Guest dove into book writing and concepting I'm not sure that even his brilliance could touch the amazing, hysterically funny work contained within these pages. With so many touchy feely works on pets and art, this one is a refreshing work that manages to come across as both parody and respect. I love cats but I also love irony and satire: exactly the elements that Guest so deftly blends in his movies. I cower at the utter absurdity and genius of abstract art in general and this rare little gem of a book. Bravo!!!
Rating: Summary: The willing suspension of disbelief Review: It's all real, I tell you. I have read this book cover to cover, every word, a hundred times over, and have never tired. In fact, I rather resent being told all the time that this marvelous document is little more than a poke in the ribs of art critism. I am CHOOSING to believe that it is true, and I take it very seriously. I refuse to acknowledge any evidence suggesting that cats might NOT paint. I even plan to personally visit the Museum of Non-Primate Art this year. I highly recommend this book to anyone who, like myself, both wishes to expand his or her view of art and is gullible.
