Rating: Summary: So, what's next? Review: A little too clever for its own good. Nice photos, text is glib and haughty. What's next? Decorating by Tarot cards?
Rating: Summary: Just in time Review: After years of accumulating stuff I liked, my condo looked like the yard sales I had so vigilantly frequented. My personality types were warring with each other and the rooms looked like chaos. The Intuitive Book of Home Design helped me focus my efforts so that each room now has a cohesive look that expresses who I am. I really love the personality angle because now I've done my home in a way that makes me feel comformable -- I'm not trying to conform to someone else's idea of style.
Rating: Summary: A WASTE OF MONEY! Review: Although I like Domaine furniture, this book was a waste of money. The author seemed to be searching for a new angle but found nothing clever or helpful to offer the reader who is trying to decorate their own home. Perhaps Ms. George should stick to what she does well - selling furniture - and leave books to authors with more innovative ideas
Rating: Summary: beautifully written, laid out, helpful, and fun Review: As part "Adventurer", part "Visionary", and part "Artisan", my tastes cross a broad range of styles. Every room in my house was chaos. With the room-by-room tour by personality category, I started to focus on one style for each room. I let loose in the living room, kitchen, and studio/office for my "Adventurer" side. I prefer the Visionary style for the bedroom and bathrooms, and the Artisan style for the dining room. Focusing on each room separately enabled me to design some rooms with controlled chaos and amateur art, and others with a more refined style without feeling like I was conceding to conventional, main-stream decorating. This book may not be sophisticated enough for some people, but for me, it was all I needed! Thanks, Judy!
Rating: Summary: 3 Cheers (and 5 Stars) Review: At last...a home decorating book that is actually fun and leads you on the path to making your home feel like "home!" I brought the quiz portion of The Domain Book of Intuitive Home Design to my book group and all six of us enjoyed it tremendously. I've found most decorating books to be off-putting in terms of making me feel like someone else was imposing their taste on me...but Judy George and her co-author made me feel that the eclectic blend of stuff in my condo was just fine, thank you, because it was ME! If you are looking for some fresh decorating ideas that will please you and not some unknown taste arbiter, this is the book for you.
Rating: Summary: More of the Same Review: Beautiful photos, but the text was too clever for clever sake. Save your pennies by not buying this book and hire a decorater. Or better yet, trust your instincts.
Rating: Summary: This book could not have come at a better time Review: Even though I regard myself as a creative person, interior decorating and picking out furniture have always intimidated me. My husband and I have recently purchased our first home which is going to need a lot of cosmetic work. I am thrilled that this book came along when we needed it most. Taking the personality quiz was not only fun but taught us a lot about each other. (We're newlyweds!) The gorgeous examples in the book have given us loads of ideas. We can't wait to get started. Thank you Judy George!
Rating: Summary: Refreshing! Encourages self-expression in the home! Review: Gone are the days where everyone's home has to look the same! With rich photography and easy-to-read text, this book celebrates the diversity and individuality of people through home decorating. The quiz helps to clarify in your own mind the overall look you are trying to achieve and gives you the words to verbalize it - invaluable in shopping or working with a decorator! This book was tremendously beneficial in helping me to minimize costly and disappointing mistakes. I highly recommend the book as well as a visit to one of Judy George's Domain stores!!
Rating: Summary: Handsome book with limited IDEAS Review: Handsome book but narrow in scope, design-wise. The personality designations are fun, but I found the personality quiz and information in The New Decorating Book, which came out before this book, equally fun but more helpful to me and my husband.
Rating: Summary: Enough already Review: Haven't we overdosed on semiotics taken to its idiotic extreme? Do throw rugs and hardwood floors really "say" that much about us? Can you tell how daring we are simply by the number of knick-knacks we own? This book is forensic jive from self-appointed experts whose only real concern is whether or not their tastes conform to the latest Interview fad.
