Rating: Summary: The title does say vintage inspired.... Review: I think this book is great. The designs are really pretty and you can easily alter measurements to fit larger chest, waist, and shoulder sizes, substitute colors for softer "vintage" looks, etc. However, I would agree the book may not please a vintage purist, but it is not advertised as being reproductions, but rather, "inspired". It's good if you like a vintage feel, but without the odd look that wearing actual vintage pieces can result in. This book is NOT for costumers, that's for sure! The designs to run young in presentation, but as mentioned can be easily done in different colorways to accomodate a more subtle expression.

Rating: Summary: Inspiring me to knit Review: I usually don't like vintage patterns, so I was wary of buying this book, but the cover was just too cute...While not all the patterns are this cute, most of them are, and I find it worth it despite the ones I don't like. If you were looking for true vintage patterns, this isn't really for you, hence the title Vintage INSPIRED...not true vintage. The patterns are trendy enough for modern wearers with a vintage feel.
Rating: Summary: disappointed Review: I was very excited buying this book, having some new projects to work on. However, I'm very unhappy with the sweater I am working on.(fair isle border) The gauge calls for 26 for 4 inches on #3 needles, however the yarn tag states 27/28 inches on #3. On the very last page it gives a substitution yarn to be used after a certain date. Well why isnt' this with pattern? and now I have this yarn that is really of no use to me. To get the gauge to work is have to go up to #5. I'm disappointed in the book. I probably won't use the book anymore, out the cost of the book.

Rating: Summary: Important Sizing Information!!! Review: Ladies,If you have more than an A/B cup bra size, don't bother buying this book. The sizes run from Small (32") - Large (36"). I am a woman who wears a 34D bra size = 38" bust measurement. Although the patterns are a creative update on some very lovely vintage looks, there is not a sweater pattern in this book that I could knit and wear. I believe that the largest finished bust measurement was 38" providing no room movement in the design/styling of the sweater, many of the patterns for a 36" bust measurement are a finished 36" bust measurement. Very disappointing. I would have thought that a woman designer would realize that "real" women don't actually have the bodies of their pre-pubescent models. However, if your measurements do fall within this range...lucky you. Enjoy!

Rating: Summary: Wearable History Within Review: My only problem with this book is that it's not enough. I adore these patterns, they're great updates of classic styles yet still retain their historical airs. Yes, a large just isn't' but, most are not so complicated that resizing is difficult. An appendix of how to resize would be helpful; most vintage patterns have such a paragraph. I don't feel that this small flaw detracts from the overall book. There are a wide variety of styles and the colour scheme makes this a true collection with many items sharing co-ordinating accents. Don't judge this book by it's cover however, the other patterns are much nicer. The photography is modern yet clear and the pattern writing is easy to follow. I especially like the pairing of patterns with their vintage inspirations.
Rating: Summary: Great styling but no body schematics Review: The sweaters in this book are very stylish, fashionable and close-fitting and would be especially suited for the young hip set (who have the figures to wear them!) My only complaint is that the patterns aren't accompanied by body schematics which most kniting patterns have these days. If one is short-waisted or long-waisted or if your row gauge is off and one needs to change where the side shaping occurs it is much easier with body schematic showing measurements. Instead the pattern instructions tell you to increase or decrease at specific rows which is OK if your bust and waist hits where the model's does and if your row gauge exactly matches theirs.
Rating: Summary: Warning Review: While these patterns are beautiful, there are at least two major problems with the directions. Every sweater in multiple colors has a color key that does NOT have the symbols coded to match the pattern grid. Unless you want to compare the color photos with the grid and color it in yourself (risking errors), you might as well skip at least five of these projects. The next project I selected said "Change to moss st and continue..." There is no description in the pattern or the book of the moss stitch. These are the obvious problems at first read -- I fear starting a project for those errors that may be less obvious. The color key problem was identified by a reviewer on September 4, 2002 at publishers website, along with a plea for assistance. It appears no one has responded. Again, the patterns are absolutely lovely, just poorly written.
