Summary: A Great Must Read Book
Review: Apparently Gandeto is a historian that belongs to the revisionist current of scholars among which are Borza, Green, Badian, Bosworth, Billows...etc. Currently this is a dominant paradigm of scholar thought on the issues of ancient Macedonia. Its main characteristic is the revision of the out-of-date 19-th and the early 20-th century interpretations of the ancient Macedonians, done by Johan Gustav Droysen and his followers, who saw the Macedonians as yet another Hellenic people that succeded in unifying the Greeks and spreading the Hellenism troughout the known world. Based on the very recent discoveries and on the capital works of the above mentioned scholars, Gandeto builds a very strong case against the Droysen's interpretation. These are Gandeto's words that by our opinion contain his esential position:
"We were saddened, and quite puzzled at the fact that so many learned people have accepted the given scenarios and went along with so many inaccurate assertions that simply boggles the mind. University professors know the truth, we concur, but why do we still find history textbooks for high school students that bristle with heavy inaccuracies? Is gently stroking the ego of a wounded "ally" more important than the dissemination of truth to our students? We think not.
Here you will find that ancient Macedonians were not Greeks and that the evidence supporting this thesis is overwhelming. To the ancient peoples and to the ancient authors that was not a matter for debate. It was simply, an accomplished fact".

Yannis Stefanopoulos,
Athens, Greece

Summary: a pure distortion of history
Review: I can't understand the obsession of the inhabitants of FYROM to prove that Alexander the Great didn't consider himself Greek. Why don't they study the ancient texts?

From Herodotus histories book IX

"They at once, hearing this, made haste to the outpost, where they found Alexander, who addressed them as follows:-

"Men of Athens, that which I am about to say I trust to your honour; and I charge you to keep it secret from all excepting Pausanias, if you would not bring me to destruction. Had I not greatly at heart the common welfare of Greece, I should not have come to tell you; but I am myself a Greek by descent, and I would not willingly see Greece exchange freedom for slavery."

(...)

You don't need to have a PhD in classical studies to understand that Ancient Macedonians considered themselves Greeks. They have Greek names which are explained in the ancient Greek language and they participated in the Olympic games which were only for Greeks.

This book is just another attempt by the slavic people of FYROM to create a bibliography in order to promote their goals, the distortion of historic facts.
Instead of wasting your money to buy a book full of fallacies, it is better to spend some time and study what the classics and serious academics have to say about the Ancient Macedonians and Alexander the Great.

Summary: Excellent!
Review: Provides undisputable evidence that the ancient Macedonians were not Greek and that the Greeks have no claim to them whatsoever. Brilliant review of Macedonian history.

Summary: Where are the facts?
Review: The Ancient Macedons wrote and spoke in a Hellenic Dialect.
This cannot be disputed.

The fact is, that the ancient artefacts found in and around Macedon featured ancient Hellenic script (Greek is a latin term) and identical cultural practises as the rest of the Greek/Hellenic city states.

"Greece" - Hellas was divided into states.
They didn't have a sense of unity of a nation even though they shared a common culture, language and genealogy.

To say the Ancient Macedons were not Greek, is somewhat true, since the term Greek is a Latin term used in much more modern times. They were Hellenes.

The Ancient Macedons were Hellenes as where all the other states of ancient Greece: ie, Athens, Sparta, Thessally, etc.
So, the Ancient Macedons were Hellenes as where the Athenians and any other Greeks of Ancient Hellas.

If anyone needs further proof, why don't they actually study the ancient texts that prove this theory (that the ancient Macedons were indeed Hellenes)
and ignore modern propagandist literature that assumes there audience has no patience to do their own re-search.

But ofcourse, that would disproof the propagandist!
They would rather dish out their version of reality... hmmmm...
and get a nice pay packet for their trouble.

Greece - Hellas has never tried falsifying ancient texts. All they keep doing is to guard their often shifting borders.

Is it so absurd to the Slavic people of FYROM that the millions of Greek (Hellenic) Macedons that exist,
would want to maintain their true culture and heritage and not have people of a foreign country steal their identity?

Anyone can come up with their own theories and use any means to do it.
Also another technique people use to falsify facts is an unfortunate result of poor translation.

All these should be taken into account when re-searching this topic.

Some Questions to ponder:
- Why did Alexander's empire spread Hellenism and not "Slavic" culture?
- Why did the peoples under Alexanders rule, speak a Greek (hellenic) dialect to communicate with their overlords?
- Why did he spread the Pagan faith of the Greeks (Hellenes) to as far as India?
- Surelly his men (ancient Macedons) managed to spread some of their slavic routes if they were trully not of Hellenic genealogy, right?
Visit any of the countries his empire engulfed and the evidents is there: Greek/Hellenic Ancient Artefacts.

Well, I hope this helps the likely readers to do their own re-search away from manipulative influences.

Summary: The Best.
Review: This book is great just like the Macedonians are!
Well greeks it time to face the facts and give it up!
Macedon was not greek at all!
Its a about time someone came out and told the facts.
I was getting sick of the greeks telling the story over and over again that the Macedonians were greeks.
This book makes you look at the other aspects, yep they were not much alike.
All I can say is, go you good thing! great work. J.S.G.Gandeto.

Summary: A Great Must Read Book
Review: This is a great book showing the differences between the Macedonian nation and the ancient Greeks. I don't know how can today Greeks claim that the ancient Macedonians were Greek when every single ancient historic source denies that lie. Even all the ancient Greek (Hellenic) writors and historitians as well as the modern ones, all until the early 1980's deny that they are the same nation with the glorious Macedonian nation. It seems it is clear to the whole world except to the history steling Greeks that the Macedonians were and are a different nations (had and have different customs and tradition, spoke and speak different languages, had totally different political, communal and social organisational structure etc.)

Summary: An excellent review of Ancient Macedonian ethnicity
Review: This well written and insightful book offers an undisputable and honest review of ancient scholars and modern scholars alike regarding the ethnicity of the Ancient Macedonians. It is refreshing to have such bold and in-your-face documented evidence distiguishing the Ancient Macedonians from the Ancient Greeks. Gandeto's exhaustive research of ancient chroniclers stands in stark contrast to that of the modern 19th century followers of Droysen's "Hellenistic" claims. Are we to negate the findings and reportings of the ancient biographers to allow political interpretations and propaganda to cloud the scholarship? I should hope not.
If you are searching for the truth, this book is a must read.
