Rating: Summary: A tale of a hero Review: ... Gary Linderer has written this book about his time in F company (LRP) 101 Airborne, being the eyes off the Eagle. Gary Linderer is a true american hero, He voulentered for airborne, he voulentered to go to F company 101 abn. Six man partrols behind enemy lines with only rifles and radios for support in case anything went wrong. Too me that already make these men heros. Gary Linderer was involed in the 20 Nov battle that saw 4 of his team mates dead and the rest, including himself woundet. But also a fight that saw some amazing act of bravery, off which at least one of them should have resultet in the medal of honor. Gery Linderer recovered, went back to his unit and "showed what those Missisipi boys are made off" ( I stole this frase from John Burford,,, Sorry John), Gary Linderer was also decorated for his performance on 20 nov. Gary Linderer's book is well written, funny at times and I realy enjoyed the part about Capt Shepard and CID, many of the single events in this book are already well documentet in other books, so How Mr Linderer tell it, is how it was, I can highly recomed this book to anyone who wants to read about "Lurps" in Vietnam
Rating: Summary: A Hall of Lies Review: Despite what Mr. "Tell" writes concerning the military service of Gary Linderer, he travels down the hall of lies. Gary Linderer was awarded a Purple Heart and a Silver Star for his November 20th mission. You can view a photo of Linderer in the hospital recieving this award from Major General Melvin Zias presenting the impact awards at the 101st LRRP/Ranger web site. It is a shame that an individual is allowed to continues his attacks on Mr Linderer while hiding behind his wife's skirt. A wimp who doesn't even have the courage to attend the 75th Ranger Reuion when its in his own home town can only be a coward. What is even worse is Amazon still presenting this person's book for sale.
Rating: Summary: Thr Readers with no name Review: Gary Linderer gives us a detailed account of his one-year tour of duty in Vietnam. Inserting into indian country in six man teams Linderer and his team mates sneek and peek in the enemies backyard. Linderer describes everything that happened 35 years ago with great detail. He also makes the reader feel that they are their with him through out his tour with the Rangers. I met"Mother" Rucker at a reunion and talked with him for more than a half hour about things in this book like I was there and I did not even serve in Vietnam. Linderer's book gives us insight into the courage, bravery and professionalism of men that America did not care about. This is a must read for those that want to know what Vietnam was like in an elite unit.
Rating: Summary: A Fantastic Read! Review: I just re-read G. Linderer's first two books, this one and the following one and must say how much I enjoyed them. G. Linderer delves deep into the way the war really was and doesn't try to pass things off that aren't real. There're no super-heros here, no larger than life super combat ninjas or anything, just a group of well-trained young men who are scared but prepared to carry out the mission. All in all, he does an incredible job of telling his story, adding the doubts and fears that he and others felt. And above all, his excellent bits of humor pop up in order to break some of the tension along the way, probably the way he did with his comrades-in-arms back in Vietnam. Heartily recommended and I bet you won't be able to put it down until you've reached the inside of the back cover.
Rating: Summary: The eyes of the eagle Review: I was assigned to Co A, 101st Aviation Bn at Camp Eagle from July 1968 until July 1969. I did in no way share the same experiences as Gary Linderer, but our Company area was directly next too the engineers and the 2/17 Cav. We were a "Slick" Co and did insertions and extractions. I was in the Commo section and performed some duties as a crew member. Some of the events he brought up, i.e. the typhoon, the IG inspection, running out of beer, were right on the money! Changing the numbers on Jeeps and deuce and a halfs was not unigue to the LRRP's. He did forget, or did not mention the one Bn Commander who attempted to grown tulips in the Company area and used all the potable water in a vain attempt to get them to grow. I thought we were all going to die of thirst at one point. All in all, and excellent book. I have orders the other two today. Jim Mateer, Walnut Creek, CA.
Rating: Summary: The way I like it Review: I've read about every Seal in Vietnam book I could get my hands on. I'd heard about the LRRPS, LRPS, and Rangers but didn't really know thier story. Gary A. Linderer write the book as to make you feel like you were there. Gary wrote this book with the help of 238 letters he had written to his girlfriend.
Rating: Summary: The most decorated living Lurp Alive Review: Like some others who made false claims as to their great military decorations and military awards, this author has been BUSTED! No 2 Silver Stars, no 2 Purple Hearts as he claims on all of his books and no paratrooper jump wimgs either making him a wannabe "LEG." This unit, the 101st Division lost its jump-pay and was filled with non-airborne personnel during this author's time period. In Vietnam, he simply sewed on jump wings and everyone assumed he was a paratrooper, when the records show he was not making him "a phonie."DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS CLAPTRAP FICTION. DON'T BELIEVE THE WAR TALES WITHIN EITHER.

As a Profesional veteran setting up Home Comings for Vietnam vets this author's books are filled with made up war tales. The national archives records refute what he writes about in his war tales. No Paratrooper Jump Wings, no 2 Silver Stars, and no Purple Hearts. This rather large man is the perfect example of the numerous fakers out there and he is a discredit to his unit, the men and the 75th Ranger Regiment Assn..
Rating: Summary: Thr Readers with no name Review: The reader who won't put their name are the same person who has writen 2 books but only sold 570 copies and Gary sold 370 of those He was medvaced from Nam for coughing not real combat wounds like the men in this book where. He's mad because nobody in the 101st. is inpressed that he sucker punched a nun talk about "don't ask don't tell". He was kicked out of the Special Forces Ass. Can't get into the 75th. Ranger Ass.and is afraid to go to the F 51st. reunion.
Rating: Summary: Manipulation to change history Review: This author has been exposed as a con who used false military awards and decorations (2 Silver Stars & 2 Purple Hearts) to sell more books. With that in mind, who can believe the content of his war tales, and his slander of other fellow veterans who have exposed his tales? "The basic tool for the manipulation of reality is the manipulation of words. If you can control the meaning of words, you can control the people who must use the words." (...)
