Rating: Summary: Pretty Good but missing some things... Review: I really enjoyed this illustrated history and compliment the authors. The forward by Bob Dole is good reading.
I did like the use of color although most pictures are in black and white.
I thought the maps added little value. They are color and placed at the back of the book but show very little.
I did learn a few things from the book. But the captions detail too little and the text is also lacking detail. More emphasis is given to battles fought by the western allies and too little given to the Russian front. Considering (lamenting), the 25,000,000 people that died on the Russian front, you don't or wouldn't sense the scale of loss and suffering based on the coverage in this book. (the book does mention the casualties, it just does not give corresponding weight in the coverage.)
The book does do a quick survey of major elements of World War II.
It also profiles some of the key leaders on all sides in the war.
Finally, most of the major photo's one would expect to see in an illustrated WWII history are presented in this book. It does not show a superabundance of gruesome graphic photos as other illustrated histories do.
