Rating: Summary: Excellent resource, very thorough -- Treptow is amazing! Review: I have read several books written or edited by Kurt Treptow, editor of this one, and I am more impressed after each one. I don't want to sound like a groupie, but this guy amazes me: he has the mind of a scholar, but the talent of a popular writer. That, and he provides some of the best, most thorough, most accurate bibliographies I have ever encountered. Just phenomenal talent!A History of Romania takes us from the pre-historic people of the region all the way to post-revolutionary Romania. A collaborative effort, some sections shine more than others, but, overall, the quality of authorship is high and the accuracy of information is impeccable. There are quite a few maps, diagrams, drawings, and photographs throughout the book, which greatly add to its interest and readability. Granted, the price is kind of steep for the average person with only a passing interest in Romania. However, for anyone who wants an in-depth study, this is the definitive book. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Good Book, but SCARY editor Review: Kurt Treptow is a convicted child molester and pedophile. He is currently serving 7 years in Romanian prison for engaging in illegal sexual acts with children at the Center's office, some of these children as young as 8 years old. Worse yet, he VIDEOTAPED these acts. Many of these exploited children are currently in psychiatric therapy to heal their wounds. While the book may be good, there has to be alternatives available that don't end up supporting creeps like Treptow. He is an embarassment to all Americans and U of I grads alike.

Rating: Summary: a history of Romania Review: well-documented; should have dedicated more space for the communist regime crimes. Overall, an interesting lecture.
