Rating: Summary: As good as it gets in the world of Guatemalan textiles Review: This book, written by the curator of western hemisphere textiles at the Textile Museum in Washington DC, serves as a primer of Guatemalan textile traditions. The photographs are high quality, including some vintage photographs from Guatemalan villages. But this is not just a pretty picture book. The author traces the evolution of textile traditions in a number of villages over the last century. The material is meticulously researched and referenced. The book demonstrates an intimate knowledge of the Guatemalan textiles in collections in the US, but might have been enhanced by field work and examination of textiles still in use today in many Guatemalan villages. This book serves as the standard for other scholars working in the field.
