Rating: Summary: Good Review: This re-inforces what I hear from people I know that are in the military who have either served in Iraq or in contact with those who are serving. What you don't hear on the news, but what you should know to give a complete picture of the situation in Iraq. It's a quick read, but if you can't find time to read the entire book, at least read the last chapter.
Rating: Summary: Let in the Light Review: What a refreshing change to find an on-the-spot report from a man who has gone out with the troops and can see much more than a half-empty glass. Not that Karl Zinsmeister is a rosy optimist in his excellent report from Iraq but rather that he sees then analyzes. Most of his colleagues in the media, sadly, don't see but report anyway. Dawn over Baghdad is a must read for any of us who may be concerned with progress in the war in Iraq or the state of the American military.
Author Zinsmeister assures us that the war is going as well as can be expected under difficult circumstances and that our American military are the best ever. Zinsmeister speaks from boots on the ground, a position that immediately distinguishes him from the usual mainstream reporters (boots under the bar). He is a top-notch writer with excellent historical perspective and a keen analytical capability. This is a must-read for all military and current affairs buffs and for a general audience that worries about America. Read Zinsmeister and realize that we have great people protecting our country.
