The treachery of Castro and his henchmen and the suffering of the Cuban people cannot be hidden behind ideological lies. Huber Matos, who fought with Castro in the Sierra Maestra mountains, has bared it all. Let us rememebr this man, a revolutionary, imprisoned and savagely beaten by the revolution. No one knows the truth better than he does. A true hero for all Cubans and for those who fight against the specter of communism that is always threatening democracy in our country.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Intenso relato de alto valor historico Review: This book is a personal testimony of one of the leaders of the Cuban revolution. Mr. Matos describes in a very direct style how they succeeded in wrestling power from the Batista's forces and the first six months of Castro's government. Castro's usurpation of power and communist leaning government leads to a nation wide purge of his detractors, including his comrades from the revolution. Huber Matos the number three revolution leader is detained and condemned to 20 years of prison in the most subhuman conditions for declining to participate in the communist government. Exposed to constant harassment, torture, and psychological pressure, Huber Matos resists by not compromising and maintaining his ethics and intellectual freedom. This extraordinary book joins the likes of The Gulag Archipelago: 1918-1956 -- by Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn and Night -- by Elie Wiesel, in describing the abuses in prisons from totalitarian governments. In the words of Mr. Matos "La verdad nos hace libres. Freedom gives us strength to defend the truth (my translation)

Magnifico.
