Summary: Inspiring.
Review: This book is a must read for everyone, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, creed, age, or national origin. It's an inspiring story of two sisters who overcame may obstacles to become successful career women. In the days when even most white people didn't finish high school, these two African-American ladies "reached high", as their parents had exhorted them, to not only complete post-secondary educations, but also to excel in careers which at the time were virtually barred to African Americans. You learn from them how important it is to be tenacious when it comes to getting what you want and to let no one put you down.

I deducted 1 star for Bessie's loathing of white people -- an odd attitude for her to have considering her mother was mostly white.

Summary: BAD
Review: This book is the worst book EVER. It was so boring I wanted to throw up. I hate the book so much I would rather die, in fact, I think I'll just go do that. This book, is, BAD. I was forced against my will to read it.

Summary: Wonderful, I can relate to some of their experiences.
Review: This is a wonderful story that highlights the life of many African-American families. Yet for some reason society has not wanted to tell these stories. The sisters are wonderful examples of what it took to survive in a large family, yet have all the love, discipline, morals and goal setting necessary to seek education while fighting the system to use your education. I am so pleased to have had an opportunity to read this wonderful book. Their were lives well lived.

Summary: Having Our Say
Review: This was a really good book. These two sisters (Sarah and Bessie Delany) brought the history of the past back to us in a very interesting way. They didn't teach hatred but instead they taught forgiveness and they gave a great insight on how people our and how you just have to move past that. They taught how without the essence of God they wouldn't have made it through and that's true. I admire these sisters because they stick together and they remind me of the love I have for my cousin. Although old fashioned they were up to date.
