Rating: Summary: This is a gem! Review: As an outdoorsman, Southerner and student of early American history, I found this book to be exceptional. It's more than a mere re-telling of Bartram's journeys. Brad Sanders has re-created the American Southeast as it must have been. The author incorporates maps, photos and his own vignettes that keep the reader captivated. Especially noteworthy are the details of Bartram's encounters with Native Americans. Most of these people and cultures he described are now gone forever. It's a book to savor slowly, over and over. The amount of detail is incredible and enjoyable. A perfect gift for oneself or the naturalist/history buff in your life.
Rating: Summary: Buy this book! Review: I was Brad Sanders' roommate back in the 70s in Athens, GA, back when REM was a garage band there. The man's an extraordinary talent, and this is an extraordinary book.
