Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Necessary for the maximum experience Review: Considering how much this sort of firearm costs, I find that owning an informative guide is a virtual necessity. All the aspects of AR-15 are explored and detailed, and the data is very accurate. A very good buy.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Is the COMPLETE AR15 text. Interesting and informative. Review: Duncan Long writes his books with an attention capturing style. This text covers a complete spectrum on the AR15 rifle and Duncan Long is vastly knowledgable on the topic. A must have text for any AR15 owner.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Complete Guide, but needs work Review: For a single author this book is incredibly thorough, but the book occasionally seems like it was rushed to press. Some statements drift off and are never completed after making a note in parenthesis, among other things. Many of the pictures are cut and pasted to assemble likenesses of the many hundred versions of the AR-15 that exist instead of using pictures of the real thing (though this is understandable). Despite these pitfalls it does remain a very complete volume, though the operation and maintenance chapters left something to be desired. The book also dedicates alot of space to the M203 and the grenades that can be used in it, even though civilians have nearly zero chance of ever using one. If you're looking for the history of and a good overview of the AR-15 makes and models that exist this is an excellent resource. If you want to know how the gun works and how best to keep it working, you might want to look elsewhere.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: awesome and complete Review: i had this shipped from amazon.com to manila, and totally loved it. there are so much variants of the M16/AR15 and it gets really hard to keep track of all . this guide tells you the make ,where to find it, who has it, and when it was made. i also learned so much from this book regarding the "markings" of an M16 and what makes yours special. i am a true loveer of the M16 rifle, and am very proud to own this book. now, i have learned many things which i haven't had the slightest idea of, before i bought this book! this truly is a good buy, if you want to authenticate, modify, and just plainly admore your M16 rifle
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: If you're new to the AR-15, This is a Great Book! Review: I recently purchased an AR-15. I've used a number of them over the years, but decided I wanted to get one and learn more about them. If you're new to the AR-15 this is probably the best book you could have (second only to the manual that came with your gun!). It offers not only technical information (and lots of it), but some good commentary on the development and progression of the models through the years. I like Mr. Long's writing style, as he makes the information easy to read and understand.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Why own an AR-15 Review: I was trying to decide whether or not I should own an AR-15 and if so what brand to buy. After reading this book, I not only knew I wanted to own at least one AR-15, but also how to evaluate the various brands on the market.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Gun Guide hits the target.... Review: I'm new to the AR-15, though not to Duncan Long's books about various handguns. So when I finally cracked and bought an AR-15, it seemed fitting to get one by an author I had grown to trust. This guide isn't perfect, but it is extensive, and answered many of the questions I had about maintainance and operation. It had been too many years since I'd fired and maintained the M-16 the Army had let me borrow for awhile. I'd always liked those guns, but had resisted the temptation to buy anything resembling an 'assault rifle'. Now my foolishness is at an end-- and I'm thrilled to have acquired an AR-15 and learned so much about a weapon that I really enjoy and also to have acquired part ofthat knowledge from this book and at a modest price. Most likely, the experts among us would expect more, but I was fascinated by the history of the weapon, the pictures of the earlier models, and the story of its first developer. I also liked the discussion of AR-15 ballistics, and was especially interested in the discussion of the barrel twist ratios of different versions of the weapon. I am more interested in proper maintainance and functioning than I am in building my own weapon. This book provides ample information in both areas for a person with my level of experience. For me, there was a good general discussion of optical sights, flash suppressors, and other accessories, though I can appreciate the remarks of one reviewer who questioned the usefulness of describing grenade launching devices. But certainly, that's part of the weapon's development, too, and the author probably felt he would be remiss to leave it out. In any case, I'd recommend this book to anyone but the most assiduous of small arms experts and gunsmiths. Regular small arms afficionadoes and shooters could do worse than buying this book. I'm glad to have it in my small collection. Moeursalen

Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: It keeps with its name. Review: The Complete AR-15/M16 Sourcebook: What Every Shooter Needs to Know keeps with its title. Well, somewhat. The book is a very detailed SOURCEBOOK. Do not buy this book to find out what you can do to accessorize your rifle. This book goes into detail about the origins of the AR-15/M16 beginning with the early years and including some photos and text on early models and models that did not make it. The book talks about some of the larger companies that make the AR-15/M16, and has pictures of most of the variants by company. It is a worthwhile read if you desire to learn about the history of the rifle, but is by no means what every reader needs to know.
