Rating: Summary: Terrible!!!!! Review: I'm so glad that I got this book from the library that I don't know what to do. I read this book and was wondering what was going on with Omar during this time. The book had entirely to many pages and I never really did get the title. Only this she did in this book was get older and get a job. The stories were crazy and made no sense. Like I said get it from the library. Just wait until someone returns it.
Rating: Summary: Oh My Goodness! Review: I will be totally honest and say that I did not purchase For the Love Of Money but opted to instead borrow it from the library. I am certainly glad that I did. I could not get past the first two chapters. It is hard to put into words exactly why this book did not interest me suffice to say that it just did not.Omar, I think very highly of you as a person since I have had the opportunity to speak with you on several different occasions, however, all of your books of late have not been anything worthwhile reading perhaps with the exception of Single Mom. Maybe instead of writing so many books so quickly take your time and develop your story line and characters more completely. Also, enlist the assistance of some readers perhaps from bookclubs like mine, BusaraNayo, to get a feel for how the story will be received by the public. I hope you take all of this criticism in stride and in turn do some introspection and resign yourself to publishing more intriguing novels in the future and hopefully in the process win back a legion of readers that you seem to have lost.
Rating: Summary: No Love for this One Money..... Review: Words cannot describe how disgusted I am with this book. For several years I held Flyy Girl in the highest esteem, mainly because I loved the description of Vanderbuilt jeans, Gucci hats, and jeeps with booming bass. I started to have concerns about Omar's writing after struggling through "Do Right Man", and putting down "Sweet St. Louis" before I finished- but now it is confirmed, I have no love for this book- or the author.I just don't understand what makes a semi accomplished writer think that anyone wants to read 300+ pages about a woman who complains about being recognized in the mall for ONE movie she made, and constantly hates on her friends and even her own mother just because they all have good men. The whole concept of Tracy being a mature Hollywood player was thrown out of the window with all of her conceited comments- and her attempts of being a player like Victor were just plain childish..... I found myself cringing at the mention of Omar Tyree (the too busy writer), Eric Jerome Dickey and Will Smith within the text- that is so cheap! Instead of making a sucessful sequel to "Flyy Girl" Mr. Tyree managed to destroy any trust I have in his writing and creativity........
Rating: Summary: Looking forward. Review: I am a parent of a 15 year old who loves to read. I purchsed "FLY GIRL" and she loved it! She shared it with each and everyone of her friends. We had a sleep over and most of the night we discussed the book. They all are Virgins and they ALL learned something from Tracey's experience. I think your books are more for the inexperienced teenagers. I am looking forward to reading "For the Love Of Money" because it sounds like something she and her friends could learn from as well. "If you love to read and you have a desire to promote young black Authors you would not bash someone making an honest dollar". I read the poor evaluations and was very disappointed BUT I still plan to buy the book and my daughter will still share it with her friends and if you write a third part I'll buy that too. I live in Jersey City and we need to encourage our black youth to read more books that are written by BLACK Authors! I am all for positive books. Keep up the GOOD work. ONE!
Rating: Summary: Thank my lucy stars I borrowed it! Review: Unfortunately, I didn't read the reviews before I read For the Love of Money. My girlfriend bought the book and put it down after the first few chapters to start reading Lolita Files, Blind Ambitions. So I picked up his book and started it for myself. I'm really trying hard not to write anything negative about Omar Tyree or to dis him so bad (like everybody has done). After all, the brother tried. At least it appears that way. No I didn't finish the book, but only because I didn't like Tracy, who in real life wouldn't make the grade. Realistically, it would be impossible for someone to be so vain and self absorbed without getting put in their place with a quickness. Anyway, I read about a third of the way through the book. At times I thought that Omar rambled and repeated himself too much. But still, at least he's trying. While I personally can't see myself ever actually paying money for one of any of his books, I would suggest to him that as a writer, that maybe he should take some writing courses or check out some of the other writer's books, i.e., Collin Channer, Eric J. Dickey, E. Lynn Harris, Robyn Williams, Timm McCann, Lolita Files or Kimberla Lawson Roby to learn why these writer's books are pleasing to so many of us readers. And also to discover why his books seem to be having the opposite effect on us. Omar, I do hope you have better luck with your next book cause For the Love of Money just didn't do it for me.
Rating: Summary: A sequel to what????? Review: Omar what are you thinking? I purchased this book thinking I was getting the sequel to Flyy Girl, which I kind of liked ( and I emphasize kind of). What I got was alot of nonsense. I had to put it down and THANK GOD I kept my receipt. Needless to say, I have learned my lesson this time, next ( if there is one) I'll borrow the book from the library. Peace!!
Rating: Summary: It was a present, okay? Review: Yes, it was a birthday present from my daughter, so I HAD to read it. She's the sensitive type and I didn't want to hurt her feelings. However, I DID ask her, "Didn't you read the reviews on Amazon.com? " She's never on the computer long enough too, what with three kids. Anyway, I read it, and although the absolutely SCARY reviews from Amazon were swirling in my head, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. However, I couldn't be too mad at her. She's the one who bought me my first Eric Jerome Dickey book and for that I shall be forever grateful. Love EJD! And speaking of scary, Tracy is TOTALLY scary! I mean I'm all for self confidence and all, but damn! This chick takes self-absorbtion and self-confidence to a whole new level. An unrealistic one. However, there were some good parts to it, but the italics drove me out of my mind. Additionally, speaking of EJD, it was quite a surprise to see his name come up in the book. Nice of Omar to give him some props. He also mentioned Jill Scott, who's CD is off the hook! Anyway, I'm convinced that the best book Omar has written was Single Mom, although in all fairness, I haven't read Sweet St. Louis. At this point, I don't think I want to, unless it's a paperback and I can get it REALLY cheap.
Rating: Summary: GARBAGE Review: This book was pure GARBAGE. I read Flyy Girl just to read this book. I keep asking myself why did I waste my time. Flyy Girl was half-way decent, but For the Love of Money is just plain HORRIBLE. I just could not finish the book. I don't have the energy to write down everything that was wrong with this book, but you can just read some of the other reviews...anyone who's read or attempted to read it knows how bad it is. Oh how I wish I could get my money back! Anyway, do yourselves a favor and don't waste your time or money on this poor excuse for a novel. It's Baaad, very Baaad.
Rating: Summary: Enjoyed It!! Review: I've read a lot of bad book lately, A LOT!, this is not a bad book. Omar Tyree is a very creative writer and didn't bog us down with another "brother do sister do brother wrong story". It is a story about Tracy Ellison from "Flyy Girl" fame who grew up went to college and got educated. After teaching for a couple of years she moves out west and becomes a screenwriter and get the opportunity to write and star in a movie. The author does a good job of writing about Tracy's experience past and present and weaving in his previous novel "Flyy Girl" in to the story. The poetry is a refreshing change. There's room in the bookstores for all kinds of stories, this is just one. Much props to Omar, everyone I've talked to about this book enjoyed it. I recommend it to all.
Rating: Summary: Sad, really, really sad! Review: I read Flyy Girl and really liked it so I couldn't wait to get my copy of For the Love of Money. Maybe I expected too much. Maybe my expectations were set too high, but what I didn't expect was to feel ripped off! What happened to a plot of any kind? I agree with the other reviewers. For the Love of Money just lacks any kind of substance. Next time I'll check out the reviews first before I buy.
