Review: This book presented an incredible way to look at modern war. A story of soldiers in a forgotten war was one of the best books i have ever read. It was a beutiful tribute to those soldiers who fought and gave their lives in a battle no one remembers including myself before i read this book. It was a detailed account of battle which read like fiction you'll never put it down.

Review: I thoroughly enjoyed reading Black Hawk Down. The book's subject matter has been overlooked for years by the American public. Given a hanful of American citizens, few can even point out on a map where the Battle of Mogadishu took place. The bottom line is this--seventeen Americans died for all of us in a foriegn African city. The least that we could possibly do is read this amazing account of the bravery and fortitude that our young people displayed in the longest sustained firefight since the Vietnam war. Mark Bowden captures the pain, frustration, and terror that went throught the minds of our soldiers. He also discusses the exeptional professionalism and self-sacrifice that are the among the finest traditions of the U.S. Military. This book should be required reading for anyone thinking about joining the military, and all American citizens who want to hear the truth of modern day warfare.

Summary: Half A Decade Later, Nothing Has Changed
Review: What a magnificent book about the great men whosedeedsexemplify everything that is still honorable and noble about ourcountry. On the level of "We Were Soldiers Once, And Young" or "The Nightingale's Song," and all the more impressive because Mr. Bowden has no military background or training. If only our political leaders would read -and heed- a book like this. Seen the news lately? Hmm, US paratroopers are conducting small-unit raids against weapons caches in a hostile foreign city. In the past week a patrol of 15 Americans was surrounded for hours by a crowd of angry Serbs after detaining a suspected militant. And the Albanian population we originally went in to protect is now turning against us. Where have we heard this before. And how many more Real Americans need to die before our leaders learn this lesson once and for all. Apparently the two who died in Kosovo last year when their vehicle flipped, weren't enough. (JFK Jr's plane crash was more "newsworthy" that week.) But, as Casey Joyce's father said, "Unfortunate Losses Have Names." May we never forget the names (and families) of Gary Gordon, Randy Shughart, James Smith, and the other brave men who died on 3 October 1993.

Review: War can look quite different and change it's appearance throughout time, yet, it always has the same face. While America's role in the modern world continues to evolve, and small squirmishes break out from Mogadishu to Bosnia, the essence of the human spirit is one that stands at the very base of our lives. Like the D-Boys, Rangers, and SEALS in Black Hawk Down, the strength of the human soul is something we continue to learn about and discover as life progresses. Thank you Mark Bowden for being such a prolific teacher.

Summary: Excellent account of Excellent men
Review: The author did a solid job of portraying some of America's best fighting men in action, horrible as it was. Five stars to the men, as well as to the author for telling their story. Another book that tells a much less dramatic story, but nevertheless an excellent portrayal of the mindset and training of modern special operations soldiers is "Danger Close" by Mike Yon. I would like to thank the soldiers who keep this country the free.

Review: The best true modern warfare conflict, I have seen. The 75th and Delta, not to mention CCT, PJ, SEAL, are the best. These guys who were there. I truely respect you.

Summary: Excellent Combat Narrative
Review: This is one of those great books that you can't put down; it reads like a novel, a fast paced narrative that can sometimes make you forget that it's a truth life drama where real people die. I enjoyed reading this book and it's nice to see an honest appraisal of a stuffed-up mission, which was no fault of the men on the ground. This is a well presented account of the men of the US Army Rangers and Delta Force troops involved in a mission to capture a pair of high-ranking deputies to warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid. In the end a number of their MH-60 Black Hawk helicopters had been shot down and they were surrounded in a hostile city on the verge of being overrun. This is the sort of book that all soldiers and politicians should read for different reasons. Well done to the author and the men involved!

Review: I thought this book portrayed a side of the incident we never saw. I am thankful that I read this book - A chilling portrait of a mission gone horribly wrong. I will recommend this to everybody, even those who do not like books of a military nature. It shows what American solides did to fight injustice and oppression.
