Rating: Summary: Listen for the Grape Kool-Aid swilling howls over this one! Review: Try as they might to discredit Posner as another in a long line of "Clinton Haters," the grape Kool-Aid swilling Clintonistas should know that the author (saddly) voted for the impeached former President...twice. Much of the evidence damning Clinton's failures comes from another two time Clinton voter, Monsoor Ijaz; an Arab-American who tried to broker a series of deals between the Sudan and the Clinton administration for Bin Laden. Posner is one of the most thorough, thoughtful, and persistant researchers in the business. This is no "instant," book...coming almost two years after the tragic events of 9/11/01. It re-visits some of the historical detail of John Miller's "the Cell," and adds the context of Congressional decisions like Barney Frank's adding to immigration law the rule that mere membership in a terrorist orgainzization was not grounds enough to deny a Visa! The government had to have actual proof that a person had commited a terrorist act before turning down a Visa request! Otherwise it was onpen arms to the likes of Hamas, Hezbollah, and Bin Laden's boys. Is it any wonder people consider the Democrats WEAK or foreign policy and the war against terror??? Dimwitcrats may want to write this book off because they don't like the conclusion...the opening premise of the book...Could 9/11 have been stopped??? The Answer??? Y E S !!
Rating: Summary: WOW Review: I've read a lot of books about 9.11 and what went wrong leading up to it. But this brings it all together. It finally connects all the dots, and is really sobering. You hear so much information from so many places, you're not sure what to believe, and this book just makes it so simple and understandable. It also makes it frightening. And the last chapter blew me away. And it made me angry, and a little scared. Why can't our own government be more honest with us. This book is a must read for anyone interested in what is behind 9/11.
Rating: Summary: This book is on the mark! Review: Read this book, Robert Baer, Bernard Lewis and Christopher Catherwood and you will get a true picture of our post 9/11 world. This book is gripping and it is true!
Rating: Summary: I was surprised. Book is NOT really about Clinton. Review: Not much in here about Clinton. Lots of stuff on the FBI and CIA, which I'm not as interested in. Agree with another reviewer who said the book is boring to read. Last chapter on the Saudi interrogation is good but only about 12 pages long.
Rating: Summary: Wow, these are truly startling revelations. Who is Posner? Review: After days of investigation and phone calls to some people who have strong opinions on 9/11, Posner has written this explosive expose' of corrupt government officials and radical religious groups engaged in activities that led to 9/11. Who would have guessed that corrupt politicians around the world would have had sinister dealings with terrorist groups? Posner's theme is that every politician and diplomat in the Arab world and in all the countries that did not support the war in Iraq, was involved in the attack. The German vice-chancellor or whatever, and then the French ambassador to the UN or something, and the Saudi Minister of Terror, and then there are all the liberals in the US congress. Wow. Even though the all of the same bibble-di-babble has been put forth on all the cable yakkety-yak shows every hour of every day for the last 2 years, it still does not fail to shock. It's all so scary. Oooooh. I'm so scared by these shocking allegations. What am I to do? Thank you Mr. Posner, whoever you are, and whatever your qualifications are. Although we have already heard all the same speculations and damning charges against Clinton and the liberals and the foreign countries that did not fully support the US actions in Iraq, you have nonetheless enlightened us on this very dire situation. The hours you must have spent researching these facts and the days you must have spent at your laptop has certainly paid off.
Rating: Summary: Don't let yourself miss this one. Review: An excellent book. I saw Mr. Posner on The O'Reilly Factor the other night and after listening to the interview, I realized he'd raised enough points to peak my interest enough to buy it. DO NOT let this one escape you. It is a book you will not put down until you reach the end. In fact, you will probably turn the hardcover over to see if there just might be another page to read. This book is a beautiful piece of journalism. Do your friends a favor and encourage them to purchase and read it. It would also be a great gift. :)
Rating: Summary: If anyone was paying attention...... Review: Posner's legacy as an author is one of objectivity through research and information. As I now have read at least four of his books, it has become obvious that he does NOT start by attempting to prove his own theory of what happens and as such angles his contents that way; rather, he is unequaled elicitor of facts and the ability to convey them (both the ones people want to hear, and sometimes, ones they don't!). In this book, Why America Slept, one gets the feeling that they are on a speeding train roaring into a tunnel ----- and at the other end is a wall. It's seems ironic that the country which is admired or hated the most because of the good things about it is capable of being as non-visionary and inept as it sometimes appears. Posner has once again done excellent work.
Rating: Summary: Terrible Read! Really Boring, Dry, and Technical Review: This book is so boring that it's really hard to get through. It's like reading a reference book. There are very few interesting points and, on top of that, there's no attempt to make it read well. It's just a compilation of prior news accounts, with a few short comments here and there, strung together. Very badly written and just a very slow, boring read. I kept reading because I thought it might eventually pick up but it never did and it was excruciating to get through. There's been press on the last chapter about the Saudis--and the last chapter does read much better--but BEWARE--the last chapter is really, really short. Do not judge the rest of the book by the last chapter--the rest of the book is incredibly boring to read and written in a totally different way. Also beware that the last chapter doesn't add much to the story the author's given in interviews since it's so short.
Rating: Summary: Sad to say, this book is all too true! Review: Sad to say it - but this book is all too true. People forgot that religion has become a major player in why people do terrible things, and September 11, 2001 showed us that all too clearly. We can't afford to ignore such extremism in the future. We must also do something, as many specialists in DC and elsewhere are now realising, about the way in which Saudi Arabia fuels the kind of extremism that caused 9/11. Christopher Catherwood, author of CHRISTIANS, MUSLIMS AND ISLAMIC RAGE (Zondervan, 2003)
Rating: Summary: Amazing if true! Review: I saw this guy on the TV and he made some good points and so I bought the book. It is scarier than the worst horror story! If this stuff is true it is horrible! How can there be so many lies and cover ups? I think there should be an investigation into these points and if it is true, heads should roll! If it is not true, this author's head should roll for scaring us this way! A good read, a good story.
