Rating: Summary: This book should get 10 STARS!!! Review: What amazes me in reading the negative reviews that some readers just don't get what Bill is trying to teach, and that is to judge an expression or an act on its own merits and NOT on whether or not you like the person him or herself. In other words, the people who wrote scathing reviews of this latest book by Bill wrote such simply because they do not like the man personally. The 1-star and 2-star reviewers for this book aren't reviewing the book; they're reviewing Bill O'Reilly's personality. Such an approach is the exact antithesis of what Bill is trying to teach in his writings. What Bill does brilliantly in this book, as with his other two, is to get people to be independent thinkers and not just vote on party lines. And by that, I'm not meaning "don't just vote Republican because you're a Republican," but it also means don't think one particular way or another because of your ethnicity or age or sex or religion. If the world could be run by more Bill O'Reilly's, then we would have a system of prosperity and fairness. Yes, the fat cats who get rich at our (the average American's) expense would hate these "Bill "O'Reillys," but it has always been known that when you stand up for justice -- and this is exactly what Bill O'Reilly does! -- then the criminals will hate you. When you think of it, being hated by the "bad people" is a sign that you ARE doing something right, and in Bill's case, in this book's case, he definitely IS sticking up for every (honest) American citizen. To the greedy crooks, he's saying "Screw you!" 5 Stars is too few; this book deserves 10 STARS!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Who IS Looking Out For Me? Review: You know, these days, it seems like everyone has someone looking out for them. And I think you know who I mean by "them," right? We all know "those people" have guardian angels in the bleeding heart liberal community. Bill O'Reilly makes a great point here -- who's looking out for middle-aged angry white guys? NOBODY, that's who. Well, except for ourselves. I can only hope that the angry caucasian middle-aged men of this country read this book and realize that "them" have had it too easy for too long. Hopefully this will result in some sort of export program, or at least some other thing where like, some guys have to wash our cars for free or something. It's about time someone looked out for me! (My comfortable suburban upbringing, excellent public school education, virtually immunity from police attention due to my blonde hair and blue eyes, and my earning potential aside, I mean.)
Rating: Summary: Bill O'reilly is brillant! Review: Mr. O'reilly's new book is just wonderful. I enjoyed reading every page of this book. Bill O'reilly writes in his book that morals and values still mean something and how important it is to have morals and values in our lives. This is not a "self help" book, but a book that shows if you believe in yourself, value yourself and live a honest and decent life and surround yourself with honest people that will be a good recipe for a successful life. Success is not measured by how much money you have. This book is brillant and I recommend it to all.
Rating: Summary: More Lies From O'Reilly Review: More blathering from TV's angriest republican. Bill O'Reilly is apparently still convinced that the public believes his "fair and balanced" shtick. For those of you who have been duped into believing this propaganda, save your money and listen to Rush Limbaugh on the radio before he OD's on Vicodin.
Rating: Summary: Book offers simplistic and often hateful "solutions" Review: Bill tells awful lies about undocumented immigrants and how they are "hurting" our economy. Actually undocumented immigrants contribe three times as much in tax revenues as they draw in public services. Count on Bill to "spin" that out of the debate. He favors militarizing the border at who knows what cost. He also routinely refers to undocumented immigrants as "illegal aliens." If anyone believes O'Reilly's assertion that he is not a conservative just look at the "people who bought books by this author also bought" column-all people on the right. O'Reilly often denies his views are conservative by saying he most admired Robert Kennedy. However, this does not mean that his views aren't conservative. I am a leftis and my favorite political quote ever is from Barry Goldwater- "Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice, moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue." In general it's a good idea to be skeptical of a person's salespitch when they are saying they are looking out for you-especially when they are in the business of pursuading you to think a certain way.
Rating: Summary: Increadibly closed minded Review: When I heard about this book I thought it was be a good lift yourself up by your bootstraps associate with good people and you will succeed type books. As I read the book I realized it was just another rantival from a splotchy old white guy. He talks about how Ethnic Minorities (mainly Blacks and Latinos) need to all be model citizens and then their situation will improve. In theory it is sound but then one comes to the realization that Blacks & Latino's are humans too! When you're surrounded by ignorance and thuggishness you're more likley to emulate that lifestyle as well. He conveintly forgets that in the 19th century when the poor Irish immigrants lived in the slums they were tuggish and ignorant as well and it wasn't until a few good people stepped in and their situations improved that the Irish-American population improved its behavior as well. How quickly we judge others without first looking at our own pasts... You would be best served reading a more non-biased book say "The Oh Really Factor" by Peter Hart? Also does it bother you that it costs 18 bucks for his book and it's only 244 pages?
Rating: Summary: Bill O'Reilly is an Idiot Review: If you want to know the truth about this country, buy Al Franken's book. All Bill O'Reilly does is try to brainwash people into becoming conservatives.
Rating: Summary: What a joke--and I'm not laughing Review: So my wife--who has a great, if wicked, sense of humor--bought me both this and the Franken book for my birthday. I used to listen to O'Reilly occasionally on the radio; no more. Guy's a pompous windbag. He makes Rush Limbaugh look thoughtful and empathetic. I score it Franken 1, O'Reilly 0.
Rating: Summary: The gospel according to O'Lielly Review: What trash this is. I read a friend's copy to see what it was all about. I wish I could get that time back. This is just more of the same...telling everybody how things should be, sounding righteous, claiming to be a middle-of-the-road'er, etc... blah, blah, blah. To think I used to be a fan of his. He says he never lies. "Alright, I've been on the air for 6 years, alright. That's 2 hours on radio, 1 hour on tv. Every day. Alright. And all this guy (Franken) has on me is that I misspoke. I labeled a Peabody award a Polk." Well, ya' know, you lied. You didn't misspeak. Is it that hard to say? I lied. I was wrong. It's really not that hard to say. Well, it's not hard for me to say. Then again, my ego doesn't run rampant over American culture. But that's a minor one. You lie on your show every night. Okay, let's take the fact that you have many criticisms of the Bush administration. First and foremost, you dislike his handling of the environment. Might be nice then, to allocate a segment of your show to how he's doing wrong. Naaaa....let's cover the Dixie Chicks again. Or maybe we can all learn how an immigrant, who shouldn't be in this country, got caught stealing. Don't tell us about the chemicals in the air at ground zero. Tell us how some college professor uses pornographic photos in his sex-ed class. Blah, blah, blah. Every time you go on the air and claim to be looking out for us all, you're lying. You only look out for us if a Democrat did something to harm us. Everyone else is an idealogue. Not you. Everyone else, namely "The L.A. Times" and "The New York Times," are propagandists. Not you. You're looking out for us with all that hard-hitting journalism. Gimme a break. Repeat after me: I'm a conservative. I'm an egomaniac. I'm wrong sometimes. And since you love pointing out who's winning the ratings wars....."CNN can't beat us. Alright. People know true journalism. Their handling of the Iraq war was terrible. People tuned into us b/c we got it right. Alright" How's this book doing? Franken's beating you like a red-headed stepchild. Why don't you mention that you're being outsold by Mr. Emotionally Disturbed. And you can forget about outselling Hillary. By the way, are you a salesman or a writer/tv personality? I can't tell. Every time I tune into the show you're peddling stuff at the end.
Rating: Summary: See Al Franken's Book... Review: This guy lies like every five minutes. He even lied about pressuring Fox to sue Al, but then came out and said he didn't regret pressuring Fox to sue Franken! What a trustworthy guy!
