Rating: Summary: A great account from a man always at his side Review: Perhaps the greatest distinction between this account of events during the Clinton Administration and others is that the author not only sticks to covering areas that he witnessed himself, but also because he was at the President's side every day. Whether it was on a jog, travelling around the world, or in the West Wing of the White House, Robert Patterson witnessed a stunning display of activities that put the countries national security in jeopardy. This book absolutely needs to be read if you honestly believe that Bill Clinton was a good commander in chief. The truth must be known about the mistreatment of the military, the all time low in armed forces morale, the activities that almost led to a simultaneous resignation of the entire white house military staff in charge of carrying the "nuclear football", his loss of US nuclear launch codes, and the repeated failure to act with regards to Osama Bin Laden.
Rating: Summary: interesting Review: I am waiting for someone to expose the corruption that is going on in the white house as we speak with our current president and his administration. Should be called "Americans held hostage by our President": the Secrets and the lies.
Rating: Summary: Derelection of Duty Review: This book should be read by everyone who wonders why the world is like it is today after the Bill & Hillery run in the Whitehouse. The value and integrity of the Presidency and what it should stand for was dishonored in every imaginable way while they held reign. This book lays it out openly where the downfall began, and continues today with new laws and political correct views instigated during his terms.
Rating: Summary: Over-rated Review: It's a pretty good book if you've never heard the case against Clinton before. I'm looking forward to Legacy by Rich Lowry because I believe it will lay out a more thorough case than this man can account for.
Rating: Summary: Should Be Required Reading Review: It's amazing to read some of the 1-star reviews of this book, but it's not surprising in the least. This book was written by a respected U.S. Air Force officer who had a rare glimpse of the Clinton White House that many never even hear about. The events that took place while Lt Col Patterson served as a military aid are absolutely outrageous. Everything from Clinton eyeballing the author's wife, to the disrepsect of those in uniform, to letting bin Laden slip through the noose, to the chapter on the wicked witch Hillary. This book is an easy read and I recommend it to every American. Do yourself a favor and read it today. You have the right to know.
Rating: Summary: What about Bush Sr. Review: The events of september 11th happened dury the Bush Jr. presidency, but conservatives blame Clinton, the previous president. When the first World Trade Center attacks happened, why didn't conservative blame the previous president like they do now? Wouldn't that make sense? The citizens of the United States do not serve the military, the military serves the people. Conservatives have a hard time understanding that. No matter how many stars you have on your shoulders, the people of this country are your boss. No matter how many years you served in the military, the American people are your boss, as decided by the Constitution of the United States. Clinton doesn't hate the military, he just knows the Constitution pretty well. Don't waste your time, energy, and mnoney on this garbage pail of lies like I did.
Rating: Summary: Dereliction of Duty? I don't think so. Review: Okay, one thing I like about these right-wing books is their lenghth. This book, excluding the appendices, is 148 pages and the author's own writing doesn't start until page 19. So that means this book is about 130 pages. Each page takes about a minute to a minute-and-a-half to read so you'll be able to finish this book in a couple hours. When you're reading crap it's good when there's not a lot of it. Not that this book is completely crap. I'm just talking on a general basis. The story about President Clinton playing golf and missing an opportunity to strike at Hussein is blown out of proportion. First of all, one thing of importance that people should know is that we have been bombing Saddam Hussein on a weekly basis ever since the end of the first Gulf War. I'm not so sure what the significance of that one instance was, and for that matter I don't think Mr. Patterson, given his position, does. Mr. Patterson presents it as some grave failure in foreign policy which highlights President Clinton's "loathing" of the military, when it was probably just a routine send-a-message-to-the-dictator bombing. The point is, we, and by "we" I mean me, you, and Mr. Patterson, don't know the context of what happened. We don't know if Clinton and Berger had argued about the issue the night before, or Clinton not responding to Berger was his way of aborting the mission, or a hundred other things. Also, Patterson makes it sound like Clinton's supposed love of golf somehow overshadowed his duty as Commander-in-Chief. This is pure nonsense. Even if Clinton spent several hours a day on extracaricular activities, which he certainly didn't, you still wouldn't be able to name a President who worked more hours for the American public. This attack, like many others in the book, was unfair. If you wanted to be fair you could criticize President Bush for many of the same things that Mr. Patterson criticized President Clinton for. Clinton was never on the front lines, true. Neither was Bush. Actually, President Bush went AWOL for an entire year and he had the nerve to tell the Iraqi resistance to "bring it on." Is that not unbelievable? Also, Clinton was criticized for his emphasis on fundraising. Well, President Clinton doesn't come close to President Bush in the fundraising department. Then, breathtakingly, Clinton is criticized for not being informed enough and being apathetic about foreign issues. Now I don't care how much you hate Mr. Clinton, I don't think a comparison here to President Bush would even be sufficient. Then there's the chapter on terrorism, which like everything else in the book is a gross simplification. Clinton fought terrorism with everything he had. It was the American media fueled by the right-wing that was dragging the President through the mud over lying about consentual sex while Clinton was doing his best to protect us. Clinton launched cruise-missile attacks against Bin Laden and these self-proclaimed patriots shouted "Wag the Dog." Clinton held weekly meetings on terrorism(Mr. Bush didn't hold any such meetings until 9-11-01). Clinton fought Bin Laden with everything he had but unfortunately he didn't have much. President Bush, with the help of nearly every country in the world, with the full support of the American people due to the sympathies aroused by the WTC/Pentagon terrorist attacks, with a whole load of helpful anti-terrorist legislation, has been unable to get Bin Laden in two years time! Can't you see it's not that easy? Also, the first Trade Center bombing happened one month into the Clinton presidency. The 9-11 attack occurred eight months after the Clinton presidency. I know many of the people reading this review despise the former President, but you can't blame him for everything. By the way, one thing I liked about the book was that I finally know the context of Clinton's comment about "loathing" the military. He wrote a letter when he was in his early 20's where he said something like "Many a good men have come to love their country and loathe the military." So he never actually said "I loathe the military." He said something quite different. Have you ever said something you regret when you were in your 20's? Can you forgive him?
Rating: Summary: typical right wing hate for anything democratic or liberal Review: meanwhile, 2-3 american kids a day are coming home from iraq in bodybags as i write this. our president bush has yet to even attend one of their funerals... his advisers say its bad PR to draw attention to the contnuing deaths in iraq. and clinton was bad for the miltary? gimme a break. slick willie was far from a role model, most politicians aren't. but somehow the military he allegedly "guted" has kicked butt in gw2 and afgahnistan. it seemed to be much more effective than the military in gw1. hmmm, how did 8 yrs of clinton gutting the military make it stronger. i wonder.... maybe it's all a myth made up by the right to further manipulate its sheeplike supporters? c'mon you peahead republicans. if your getting a huge tax break cause your rich i can kinda understand you supporting bush and hating clinton. but the rest of you should wake up. clinton was the victim of a right wing witch hunt that still continues today through books like this. meanwhile bush is cutting funding to veterans & lowering pay to the current military. (including payments to wounded or killed soldiers) & he got us into a situation where we have 250,000 american boys over in hostile lands where they are being attacked daily (all w/o world support). president bush has had the true dereliction of duty.
Rating: Summary: Not as objective as I had hoped, but still very informative Review: I certainly don't think this is the forum to discuss personal political beliefs as some reviewers have chosen. As I was never a fan of Clinton's, I tried my best to read this book as objectively as I could. While I was appalled to see the examples of how Clinton disrespected the position we elected him to (especially through his treatment of our brave men and women in the military at home and abroad) I was disappointed with how the author attacked the Clinton's personally. As much as Buzz Paterson said it was NOT a personal attack and that there was a much greater underlying meaning that would surface as a result of relaying these examples, it did not come across completely in that way to me. Half of me chalked that up to his understandable passion for the welfare of our military personnel, but the other half thought it was in borderline poor taste. The 4 stars comes from averaging a 5 on content with a 3 on the manner it was conveyed.
Rating: Summary: Whatever happened to objectivity? Review: Excellent book that has clearly hit raw nerves among the "vast left-wing conspiracy" as seen from the comments of the 1-star reviewers. Lt-Col Patterson has done a great job of presenting his criticisms in an interesting and yet matter-of-fact, non-sensational manner. Not for him the hyped-up rhetoric so often used by partisan commentators (e.g. the 1-star reviewers) to disguise the lack of substance in what they have to say. To the 1-star reviewers who criticise the author's claims as being unsubstantiated, you should consider that the author, if he is making up stories, risks being publicly discredited or sued. None of the 1-star reviews that I have read directly refute any of the incidents described by the author. Have Americans become so polarised and partisan that they have lost all sense of objectivity? (One reveiwer even said that Clinton managed to thwart all terrorist attacks during his presidency. Duh! Did you read the book? Do Riyadh, Al Khobar, Tanzania, Kenya, the USS Cole ring any bells? You cannot be objective if you don't rely on facts). The 1-star reviewers who remark that the book is irrelevant because Clinton is no longer president appear to have lost the plot. Do you not think that the Clintons will try to get back to the White House (so that they can sell more nights in the Lincoln bedroom)? This is what makes the book so important. The bottomline? It does not matter what the author's motives are. If what he says is true, it is a serious indictment of the Clintons' suitability to be leaders. Don't shoot the messenger; listen to the message even if it is painful to your ears.
