Rating: Summary: A Must Read Review: Thank you Robert Patterson for being brave enough to write this, knowing the backlash that would follow. As a member of the Air Force, I can honestly say that I was not alone in my lack of respect for my former Commander in Chief. This was wonderfully informative, and answered many questions. I will be giving this book as gifts to many of my fellow Airmen.
Rating: Summary: History... please... Review: First of all, we are not even remotely in a position to take stock of the Clinton presidency historically speaking. Furthermore, this author should not be compared to a historian. I take that as a personal offense... he is a journalist (one step above a lawyer and used car saleman for being selfless and honest). Did the CLinton White House make mistakes and not confronting terrorism in the way we presently are? Impossible to say at this time. We have yet to see how helpful the Bush doctrine is and will be in the decades to come. I would wagger, however, that Clinton's inaction might have made us more secure than Bush's over reaction.
Rating: Summary: Don't Bother Review: This book defines the "Dereliction of Duty". But it's not that of our former President, it's that of the *author*. This is the biggest pack of lies I've ever seen by a member of the U.S. military, and quite frankly, an embarassment. There are such outrageous tales told in this book, that one wonders where to begin. Suffice to say, that as a former member of our armed services, I am appalled at how arrogant Patterson comes off. At its most base point, he goes so far as to insist that he knows more about matters of policy than the President's top advisors. Give us a break. In fact, it is a matter of principle that those who serve as White House Military Aides do so as an honor and as a priviliged post of service -- and strictly to carry the codes (whose proportions he can't even seem to recall correctly). His deluded imagination is insulting to the uniform that he wore, and hopefully will never wear again. He is a disgrace to the MilAide program, and someone who obviously got paid alot of money for an obviously right-wing Clinton-hating publisher for this piece of "creative thought". Don't waste your money.
Rating: Summary: Who paid this guy? Review: I read this book among others in an attempt to understand the basis for the radical right's clinton vendetta. I've never understood, for example, why millions of dollars and so much hate has gone into smearing the man AFTER he has become pretty harmless. This book doesn't help that understanding. Indeed, this book has nothing to do with understanding. It is a list of politically motivated, unsubstantiated statements, badly written and filled with that insane loathing that only fundamentalist Republicans seem able to muster. I'd love to see who actually paid to have this book written.
Rating: Summary: Covering the backsides... Review: So my nutty right-wing cousin gives me this book and I read it. It amazes me that Republicans can't get over the fact that they a) wouldn't know how to run an economy even if it came with an instruction manual, and b) the obviously don't know how to run foriegn policy! The same Rush Limbaugh ditto-heads who can't get over the FACT that Clinton's Presidency was the most successful economic turn-around this nation has ever seen and that he worked diligently for peace in the Middle East, Northern Ireland, and in the Balkans. What is most sad is that this book tries to accuse Clinton of ignoring the threat of Bin Laden. Of course, the facts are rather different--diligent pursual of Bin Laden while the Republicans fiddled, and stern warnings from the out-going Clinton administration officials to Bush II, which were ignored. Let us hope that those who fail to understand history do not drive this nation to repeat the follies of arrogance that characterized the first Bush administration and Reagan's era. As for this book, the paper is too rough for toilet use. Recycling might be appropriate.
Rating: Summary: cheap shots come easy Review: cheap shots come easy when writing with hindsight bias. there are a lot of things in this book that are exagerrted, stretched, inaccurate, and just plain false. if a self proclaimed prophet wrote a book about the devil then it would be just about as credible. and just sos you know, i don't even like clinton (or the devil). but i praise Robert Patterson's ability to cash in on recent tragedies and make his own wallet that much fatter. it takes a lot of courage to strip yourself of morality and give america a scapegoat for the [trouble] we know deep down we are all at fault for.
Rating: Summary: More lies and manipulations from the right wing Review: Nothing to learn here because the writer has an agenda: to [slam] Bill Clinton with whatever he can come up with. Didn't we have plenty of that in the 90's? Compared with Bush, Clinton comes off like the Dalai Lama.
Rating: Summary: Patriots are Recognized not Self Appointed Review: I take issue with the reasons Mr.Patterson provides for authoring such a book. As a military officer entrusted with the nation's nuclear codes, haven't we afforded our trust to someone who has clearly betrayed it. Service to any President, regardless of party or fundamental beliefs is an honor as an individual and for your country. To dishonor his access and privledged position and author personal accounts injecting his own bias and perception is less than honorable. Patriots are annointed by their colleagues, their foes, their countries, not themselves. Mr. Patterson is a disgrace to the honor of the men and women who have served before him and will serve after him. Regardless of his or our feelings of Former President Clinton, let's hope his dishonor does not make the current or future men or women who hold the office of President of the United States hesitant to confide in and trust those military officers who convey they are trustworthy and honorable. To purchase this book, is to dishonor our country and the men and women who are fighting for it today. God speed and God help Mr. Patterson.
Rating: Summary: absurd Review: This book is both absurd and terrible take on the Clinton administation. It explains fabricated evidence of a great president
Rating: Summary: If we only had a time machine? Review: Today, a section of the American Public is asking the question "What would the USA be like if Al Gore had been elected president in 2000." This book clearly answers that question. The question we should be asking is "What would the world be like if President Clinton had removed [the threat] when he had the chance, and removed the barbaric and ...Iraqi regime when he had the chance, and, and, and..."? An ounce of prevention is worth.....
