Rating: Summary: Biased and poorly written Review: While the text itself has some interesting insights, the fact of the matter is that the book is poorly written and offers little more than personal opinion for an almost promised 'factual' accounting. While the author claims it is not a personal attack aganist Clinton, he does attack Clinton subtly. Other Presidents have had just as many problems with the 'nuclear football' carrier (see the Maxim magazine article), and while Clinton's alleged sexual misconduct towards an Air Force woman is certainly inappropriate, it is hardly limited to just Clinton (see the recent Air Force Academy scandals). It is no secret either that many of the hard-edge military people disliked Clinton because he was a "draft-dodger" and in the end this book seems more like a poorly written parting shot at Clinton.
Rating: Summary: Great insight on military review of Mr. Clinton Review: Lt. Col. Patterson's book is an eyewitness account of the neglect of duty by former president Bill Clinton. It provides a military insiders prespective on Clinton not taking his job as commander in chief seriously and thus emboldened our enemies to the level of 9/11. The author has no political ax to grind but merely gives factual situations which provides the title to the book. It was chilling to read that one administration, with its politically correct liberal agenda, could undermine our entire military more so than many of our enemies. My hats off to LC Patterson for his bravery in writing his story and telling it like it is, straight forward and honest. It's an easy read with some good incredulous accounts of how immature the Clinton's behavior could be and sometimes just plain ole irresponsible. I loved the part about Clinton losing the nuclear codes and not even knowing when! I never heard about that and I am not surprised with our incompetent media these days. Every american who is an american should read this account of this amazing military aide to the white house - the carrier of the nuclear football. Buddy Coate
Rating: Summary: Clinton is a PIG Review: This book is very interesting. Nice, informative flow to it. Clinton is a pig. Plain and simple. From losing the "football" to his complete disrespect to the military members of this country, he is nothing more than God aweful. Patterson provides very good insight from what he saw and he has nothing to prove except tell the truth of what this President was all about. Great job.
Rating: Summary: Poorly written and emotionally skewed Review: This book is written on the level of a fourth-grade primer, is emotionally charged and devoid of any political savvy.
Rating: Summary: It was never JUST ABOUT SEX! Review: This is an excellent book for everyone to read, especially those who thought the Clinton scandals were just about SEX. After reading Lt. Col. Patterson's testimony you will realize how important it is to elect a president with morality, integrity, and leadership. I heard Lt. Col. Patterson being interviewed on the radio about his book. Most callers thanked him for writing this amazing expose'. Then there were the die hard Clinton supporters that accused him of lying and just trying to make money. For those callers to believe a man that was impeached and a proven perjurer over a man with a spotless record after serving under 3 presidents just exposes their extreme partisanship. As for the people who say that he just wrote this book for the money, I say he could have just as easily had written a favorable book about his experience in the White House. He would have probably made more money praising President Clinton because then all the morning shows would have interviewed him and plugged his book. With this book, he will be ignored. Thank you Lt. Col. Patterson for serving our country and writing this extraordinary account of the Clinton years.
Rating: Summary: How Many People Can You Fit in a VW Bug? Review: Reading people's reviews of this book I am enticed to read it. But I have to wonder something out loud and that is what the author's biases are. Obviously the military favors Bush and hated Clinton. No doubt about that. Many in the military have had designs on war for some time. Paul Wolfowitz, one of Clinton's top advisors was fired because his views were too radical for the Clinton administration. Now the military has its war, but at what cost? Oddly enough it was a Republican who handed a Democrat World War II - largely because the Republican didn't want to get involved in the mess. Getting us through the War ultimately cost Franklin Roosevelt his life. Who is this author? What is his bias? Who sponsored the writing of his book? Many years ago, more than I care to admit, when I was in high school we were taught to question authority and to question bias. For whatever reason when Americans swing back from some liberal sense of openness and acceptance we seem to swing so far the other direction that madness seems to ensue. So far I've seen lots of sensationalist reviews, mostly from folks who love the author's "frankness" and "candor". But who has checked this guy out and found out where he's coming from, what his true biases are, what his power bases are? I think America wants a scapegoat and I would believe strongly that Clinton said and did things that were inappropriate. But if Americans read history a little more closely they would find that many American Presidents, some much admired, said and did absolutely deplorable things. Years ago someone like Patterson wouldn't have written such a book because it would have been considered cheap, yellow journalism, even sensationalist. Now we eat it up and don't question its origins. Do many of people love this book, sure they do? But are those same folks likely to ask the question: how many people CAN you fit in a VW Bug? So similar is this book to the burning of Joan of Arc. I, the deluge, choose not to pile on the timbers at the base of the stake and burn the Maid of Orleans. With her burns a sense of balance, a sense of honor, a sense of dignity. What about you? Do you have to climb into the VW Bug to "make the record" or add wood to the fire of Jean d'Arc's demise? In either case, without recognizing bias, this is in tag football terms, a "pile-on".
Rating: Summary: Right Wing Drivel Review: The author's last act of service to the nation should have been to tear up the manuscript. The nation was both secure and prosperous during Bill Clinton's tenure. The same cannot be said of Reagan, or either of the Bushes.
Rating: Summary: Well Written--An objective piece. Review: Mr. Patterson must have strong personal views that, for the most part, he kept under control when writing this book. I'm sure there were many fine officers who became disillusioned with the executive leadership during the Clinton years. Thank God we have a President now who has the county's interest at heart and not his own gratifaction. Thanks, Buzz, for shining the light of day on Bill and Hillary.
Rating: Summary: He's gone, it's time to move on Review: Look here people, I couldn't stand Bill Clinton and I am glad he is gone. But I tell you, too many of my fellow conservatives are hung up on the fact that he won two elections. They take it as a personal insult. They also can't stand the fact that BC is still very popular; it drives them crazy. Let's face it, the Presidency is a popularity contest that has little to do with ideology. Nobody cared what Clinton stood for, as long as he wasn't too public about it. What people wanted was a President who sounded sincere on TV. That was about the only thing Clinton was good at. So now he's gone and those 8 long years are over. The more we waste time bashing him the less time we spend looking forward. It also isolates us from the mainstream of America who (for reasons I will never understand) loves him. Just be glad he is gone, because frankly that guy could get re-elected any day he wanted to. Lord only knows how he does it, but even liberal Republicans tend to vote for him in the end. Lets forget him and move on. This book is a waste of time and the author is so focused on bashing Clinton he lets too many fantasies slip in with the facts. Clinton's failures stand well enough by themselves; we don't need to invent anything to add to it - that only diminishes our credibility. I say skip embarrassing diatribes like this and read real history.
Rating: Summary: Disturbing Review: This book is a very succinct work of one man's point of view. It confirmed most of what we now know about the 42nd president. Especially interesting is the chapter on the first lady or "co-president". This book is an extremely fast read, and you will probably be through it within a rainy weekend. I was hoping for a little more substance from this book, but then again, this is only one man's point of view. If you have about 5-6 hours to kill some weekend, and you want to see an insider's viewpoint on the Clintons, you might want to pick up this book. If you think that Clinton should not have left office for being impeached, or being impeached at all, take a pass you will not like this book.
