Rating: Summary: An Eye Opener Review: There's nothing to say. It brings out the facts that Clinton lovers don't want to anyone to know, even themselves. Before I read this book, I never liked Clinton, but I never thought he was a bad president either. Now, I strongly believe that he was one of the worst we have ever had. There are a few personal slashes that are irrelevant to his presidency, but other than that, it uses not assumptions, as the liberals do, but facts. And who's going to want to serve a president with no morals, even towards his own staff, so in a way the personal things on Clinton do serve a purpose. You can't argue with the facts.
Rating: Summary: Dereliction of Duty Review: The author of this book is non partison (as he states). A career military officer who did not even vote in the two (2) Clintion elections. He has no "axe to grind" with ANY past president.I could only read 50-100 pages at a time. Reason: I would get so mad after reading some of our Presidents actions (or inactions) I would have to put the book down just to "cool off". Before "filegate"; before "whitewater"; before "Vince Foster"; before "travelgate"; before the various affairs, I have long held we have yet to see much more than "the tip of the iceberg" with this Presidency. This book will expose SOME of the very important items not known before, concerning National security and his complete failure of same. Should be "required reading".
Rating: Summary: Worst Fiction Since Matrix Reloaded Review: This book is a joke...a compilation of speculation, spin, conspiracy theories and right-wing jealousy. Multiple articles have already been published challenging the accuracy of many of the primary assertions and pointing to the fact that the referred connections and causality are confused with correlation and proximity. For example, appropriate reductions in military and intelligence spending which began with Bush Senior and the end of the cold war is blamed solely and unreasonably on Bill Clinton. Similarly, GOP congresses passed legislation that is solely tagged to Clinton. In addition, the decisions made at the time were taken completely out of context. As though anyone on this planet would have made a the same decision now as they would then. Hindsight is of course 20-20. The funny thing is that, in trying to persecute Clinton with the fall of National Security, the Authors actually make it quite clear that the forces from the right did everything they could to stymie any efforts made to build National security. Congratulations.
Rating: Summary: Patterson's Dereliction of Facts Review: He's so ticked at the President for following through with the downsizing his predecessor started (and probably part of what led to his early retirement), that he can't even keep the facts straight. Clinton didn't send troops to Somalia, Bush the First did. Just one of his many errors in the pursuit of this lynching. Sad. And a military man that tells tales on the Commander in Chief is without honor.
Rating: Summary: THIS IS A JOKE - MAKE BELIEVE! Review: You're wasting your money if you buy this book. It's a joke.
Rating: Summary: Vivid, Disturbing ... and deeply disappointing Review: Col. Patterson considered himself apolitical when he was selected for a tour of duty as one of President Clinton's five military attaches. Over the course of the tour, what he saw exceeds even the worst stories that have circulated in Washington. Beyond the already familiar tales of denigration of the military staff, confusion of the role of the military as some sort of public-works agency to outright indifference by the President and his inner cricle over terrorism. Colonel Patterson is the first military aide to write an insider's account of his years in the White House. It's deeply disturbing that any President should be so flawed and yet manage an iron grip on power up to the last constitutional moments. In this book, Colonel Patterson fully lays the blame for September 11th on Bill Clinton. Sadly, documents recovered from al Qaeda terrorists in Bosnia backup what he claims: Bill Clinton's inept, public-relations oriented approach to the more than 400 terrorist attacks against the US and US interests during his Presidency are what caused September 11th. A President who can be interrupted while watching a golfing match to decide whether to approve an attack on Iraq? A President who loses the nuclear codes? Good God.
Rating: Summary: Must read for every concerned citizen Review: I found Lt. Col. Patterson's account of his experience riveting. He gave enough detail about what it was like to deal with President on a regular basis to make me want to read more and see what it was like to work closely with the "most powerful man in the world". Although it cast Clinton in a bad light, it seemed to be an accurate depiction of the way things work with any President of the United States. It was a book I wanted to keep reading. Most of us don't get an opportunity to know the inner workings of the White House and all things that go on behind the scenes. I got the impression that the job is too much for any one man. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to have a behind the scenes sense of what really goes on with the "Leader of the Free World".
Rating: Summary: Skip Hillary's book Review: Read Chapter 3 of Patterson's Dereliction of Duty and you will not want to donate to Hillary's coffers.
Rating: Summary: Tells all he knows - and doesn't stop there Review: Lt Col Patterson has written a stinging indictment of Clinton's behavior while president. His credibility is derived from his proximity to Clinton during his period of service as carrier of the "football," the nuclear launch codes never far from the Commander in Chief. And herein lie both the strength and the weakness of this book. As long as Lt Col Patterson sticks to recounting his personal encounters with and observations of former President Clinton, the book is a gripping glimpse at the Clinton most of us never saw. Anecdotes such as the golf-game delayed strike authorization are interesting and germane. However, Lt Col Patterson does not confine himself to matters he personally observed, and this detracts greatly from the value of the book. When he digresses to discussions of Clinton policy, he has left the realm in which he is an expert, and becomes just another kvetcher. A lieutenant colonel is a fairly junior officer, and nothing in Lt Col Patterson's biography gives me reason to believe that his opinions on policy matters are worth paying to read in a book. A book like this succeeds when it gives the reader a perspective otherwise unattainable. Desciptions of travels with the Clinton family fit this description admirably; pontificating on policy does not. Dereliction of Duty would have been greatly improved by trimming a chapter or three.
Rating: Summary: useless, totally useless Review: I'm not taking part in the conversation about CLinton himself; whether he was a good president or how bad the things he did were, I'd rather comment the book itself. The point of the book can easily be said in a single sentence: it is nothing but a useless rant of a person who obviously holds a grudge for president Clinton. I dont understand a person who still concerns oneself with the case of Bill Clinton, talk about writing a book about it! seriously, use your time more wisely.
