Summary: Confirmation!
Review: As I retired military officer (I retired in 1998) this book just confirms all that I suspected about Bill Clinton and the military. Lt.Col. Patterson lays out treated the military and had such little concern for welfare of our military. I can relate much of what he says to incidents I observed during my own military career. A must read book for anyone interested in national security.

Summary: Dereliction of Reviewers!!
Review: People, please, if you must opine, read the book and know what you're talking about! Patterson does not suggest that Clinton put the troops into Somalia first. On pp.112-113, he specifically notes that Bush I put them into Somalia in a humanitarian mode and that Clinton changed the mission to one of peacekeeping and nation-building while, at the same time, reducing the troop strength from 28,000 to 4,500. Absolutely factual and verifiable. Amazon is not a place for malcontents to spam literary works. It's to REVIEW the book in question so that others may understand. In that light, this book is not about President Bush, it's about this officer's experiences and observations of President Clinton. Editorial comments about Bush and "illegal wars" are not pertinent. If your feelings are hurt by this man's accusations, don't read the book. Just go away. If you want to know how Clinton fumbled national security (and losing the nuclear codes), this book is tremendous! And I love how these purportedly "former" military men and women make note of that before they spam. Trust me, ask anyone in the military who served under both Clinton and Bush II (like myself) for their take and you'll understand. We now have a commander-in-chief after 8 years of the position being vacant. This book is an outstanding read and completely verifiable. Pick it up ASAP!

Summary: Ignore the Left they are worthless
Review: Please ignore most of the negative reviews on this site about this book. I have read a few of the posts and trust me 90% of them never even read this book. They are just doing what most liberals do and that is champion there hero Clinton. If Clinton is there hero this just shows how sad and desperate they really are. Most of us with any sense know that Clinton sold out America on many occasions. We are still paying the price to this day and will continue for many years to come. This book mentions a lot of them but in know way is it a definitive guide to the scandal ridden Clinton Presidency.

The book is a decent read for those of us who want to read objective opinions from the U.S. military's perspective. The author Buzz Patterson mentioned many times that he liked Clinton but not his policies. This book shows that Clinton has a lot of charisma but no moral character or beliefs. Again this is nothing new for anyone who actually followed the Clinton presidency and care about facts. Most of the liberals I know don't understand why the military did not like Clinton. May be if they actually looked into how Clinton handled the military they would understand why. There are many pieces of "factual" material that back up this book.

So get the book. It's a decent, quick read and you might come across a few things that you did not already know. After all most of these really bad book reviews come from people who if Clinton stood directly in front of them and spit on them they would say he didn't do it.

Summary: a silly and disgraceful book
Review: I am the spouse of a military officer (USMC), and I find this kiss & tell an outragously bad & silly book. It's clearly not objective, and I find it hard to believe that Patterson even witnessed a lot of the things he writes about.

Patterson's military pension should be revoked for making money on this book. This is the guy who was trusted with the nuclear codes??? Thank goodness some rogue nation or terrorist group didn't come up with a better offer than Regnery Press!

Patterson knows darn well that the draw down across the military was not a Clinton project. The draw down was in full effect way before Clinton, and it reversed course completely during the Clinton presidency. For Patterson to say or indicate otherwise is simply wrong, and this makes me doubt everything else in the book.

I say all of this and I'm hardly a Clinton fan!! I'm as GOP as they get. But this book is a cartoon. It is poorly written, but I guess venom makes bad ink. If you want venom and cartoonishness, buy Ann Coulter's book. At least she is FUNNY, although I'm not sure she means it that way.

Why can't conservative spokespersons be people of honor who write books that are validly researched and meticulously footnoted?

Summary: Pleasantly Amazed
Review: Far from being the typical rant for or against a political figure, this book is impressive in it's analysis of why the Clintons could not effectively utilize or even work with the military. But, most of all, the demonstration of both the inability of the Clinton administration to address issues of a military and foreign policy nature, and the amazing talent to obfuscate and lie about it, is truly chilling. An excellent and engaging read!

Summary: Dereliction of making your point
Review: National security. Welcome your new golden cow! Worship it and watch all that freedom you brag about dissipate. This book doesn't have a point about national security. Disguised Clinton bashing. This book costs too much.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Stupid military
Review: Just because this stupid military guy is upset that Bill Clinton's job didn't completly revolve around the military(see republican) doesn't mean that Clinton was doing a bad job. Clinton spent his time paying attention to other things such as the American people. Its better than Bush who spends half the day in the exercise room and the other half letting other people make decisions for him.

Summary: TRUTH HURTS
Review: Liberals can't take the truth when they see it or read it. Liberals have a agenda that is not consitent with the truth or the American Dream. How can any body think this book is a lie
needs to look in the mirrow. The truth hurts and you need to face the truth. Military personnel are put out of the service for goofing up Nucler Protocols--Clinton though he was above the law. Good book that all liberals neen to read.

Summary: Just the Facts
Review: Patterson's Joe Friday delivery of "just the facts" is welcome and appropriate. And the facts speak for themselves.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Rright wing hogwash at its tastiest.
Review: Dereliction of Duty is one of two books that I have reviewed on Amazon that I have given one star, the other being Bernard Nathanson's supposed autobiography The Hand of God - only because I could not give it none. I should say at the outset, that tho I am an unreconstructed bibliophile and a voracious reader, I could not bring myself to buy this book for my library. This is perhaps the silliest, most petulent, of the mindless and vicious attacks on the Clinton presidency. And anyone whose memory extends past two weeks ago can choose from a myriad of misrepresentations, distortions, non sequiters and outrageous opinions and meaningless anecdotes contained within it. It seems to have been written by a certifiable paranoic. The only other book I've read about the Clinton years which comes close to being as silly as this one is the one by the former FBI man assigned to the White House who wrote his own "expose" a few years ago. Bill and Hillary have been able to rouse a remarkable level of hatred in the odd ball right wing. This guy reminds me of General Edwin A. Walker, a denizen of the far right back in the 1960s. How do these creeps keep infiltrating our military?...wfh
