Rating: Summary: Some soldier! Review: I'll be upfront and honest-- I picked up this book, but could not bring myself to read past the dust jacket because Patterson comes across as such a blatant opportunist with an ax to grind. I fully and completely respect our Armed Forces members-- my sister is in the Army, and it has been a godsend for her. That said, the military should hold this snake up by his shoulders and provide him with the a$$-kicking of a lifetime. His read of history is ridiculous and petty. Furthermore, the disdain that G.W. Bush has demonstrated for America's Vetreans (and I am well aware of these cuts, because my mother, a nurse in a V A hospital sees the impact on a DAILY basis) and for our Reserves (who now, as a result of a re-reading of old rules and our horrible economy) can no longer expect their jobs to be held for them if these jobs are "downsized" while they are off fighting ( a duty which Bush II and Cheney and Rummy and DeLay all shirked)is fundamentally disrespectful. Sometimes, a healthy thriving economy are almost as important for our troops as a White House cheerleader is. I'm really dismayed that anyone, even a complete partisan, would take patterson, or Regenery, seriously.
Rating: Summary: Fair and truthful Review: Although we all have general knowledge of the problems with the Clinton White House, Lt. Col. Patterson is able to give us the scary details of how America's safety was seriously compromised in those eight years. Patterson writes in a fair way-even saying he very much liked the president on a personal level when he met him. He says nothing negative that isn't backed up with hard evidence. A telling book and one that needs to be read in order for us to avoid electing future, unqualified leaders.
Rating: Summary: You voted for him!! Review: I would venture to say that the people who read the book and didn't like it are Democrats. They are the same people who probably think Clinton (He will get no Mr or President from me) was the greatest president of our countries history. BULLPUCKY!! After 17 years in the Navy, if I had done half of what we all have proof he did I wouldn't be in the Navy. This book spells it out in plain english by an Officer in the military who served by his side. It explains what he did and did not do during the time he was destroying our country and it's reputation. Mr Patterson is not a writer, that is obvious. But if you read it for what it is, information about how this "man" destroyed our national security while in office, it is quite good. As for the people who insist the book is no good and Clinton is still a great man... You may think me and all the others who have gone before me who have protected and still protect your right to run your mouth.
Rating: Summary: insight on both Clintons Review: This is a good read for anyone whose opinions about Bill and Hillary are ambivalent. The author recounts many incidents he observed, or was involved in, during his time at the White House. Read this and form your conclusions about what kind of people the Clintons are.
Rating: Summary: Wytosha, Huh? Review: This is not a review, this is a dispute of another review. To Wytosha, from Mountain View, CA., no member of the U.S. Military ever swears an oath to "protect the Commander-in-Chief". The oath is to protect the Constitution of the United States from any and all attack, both from without and within. No member of the military owes any debt of honor to a president; they are constrained by the chain of command, but they swear no oath to the president.
Rating: Summary: Inside story, always great to know Review: The All American Robert Patterson has to serve the draft dodging president. Colonels carrying golf bags for the Rodham brothers.Very interesting stuff.
Rating: Summary: Clinton's Army Review: I just read this book and I was in the U.S. Army, 82d Airborne Division as an E-4 during his first 2 years in office. I left behind what everybody referred to as "Clinton's Army". Everything you read in this book about how the military felt about their Commander in Chief during this time is true, and how he affected morale of the personnel serving in the military. I highly recommend this book. I couldn't set it down.
Rating: Summary: Hounded By A Draft-Dodging Past Review: DERELICTION OF DUTY is much more than an expose of the national security failings of the Clinton White House. Buzz Patterson also analyzes many of the peacekeeping and foreign policy fiascos from 1993-2001. The main emphasis of the book is on the irreparable damage done to our military by a president who was hounded by his draft-dodging past.
Rating: Summary: A Very Poor Commander In Chief Review: In DERELICTION OF DUTY Lt. Col. Patterson describes his experiences in the Clinton White House as one of the keepers of the little black bag known as the "nuclear football." He was stationed at the White House from 1996 until 1998. Patterson portrays at least two instances when President Clinton shows a serious disregard for national security. One situation involves a missed opportunity to attack Osama Bin Laden because Clinton does not want to stop watching a golf tournament. Another time Clinton loses the nuclear codes which are never found. Perhaps the most important revelation of the book concerns the entrenched anti-military attitude prevalent among Clinton, Gore and the entire White House staff. Some of the occasions reflecting this mood may seem merely childish such as requiring military aides to carry Clinton's golf clubs. The real problem is that the anti-military bias resulted in policies which have long-term consequences for our national security. The legacy of the Clinton presidency described in DERELICTION OF DUTY demonstrates the widespread damage done to our military and intelligence capabilities during the eight irresponsible years of the Clinton-Gore reign. We need to be very thankful that Clinton is no longer our commander-in-chief.
Rating: Summary: Proof that moron-Americans will buy anything. Review: Who took a month-long vacation just prior to 9-11? Who sat comatose in a class room while the towers burned and 3000 Americans died? Who went and hid in a bunker in Nebraska to keep himself "out of harm's way" immediately after the tragedy? Who has used 9-11 as an excuse to shred the Bill of Rights and start a war for oil that has nothing to do with making America safer or liberating Iraqis? Who has drained the treasury to fill the pockets of his rich buddies? Answer these questions and you'll have a book worth reading.
