Rating: Summary: How Long Has It Been? Review: The obvious questions here should be "What year is it?". Clinton left office how any years ago? and of course...."Don't you have anything better to do?". There is nothing in this book that stands up to serious scrutiny where records are available. And the two or three statments that do stand up, matter so little when compared to the presidencies of Reagan or Bush 1 that it's shameful a book would even be written. If you are seriously outraged, focus your efforts on those who are in power now.
Rating: Summary: God Bless the US Military Review: A lucid and unflinching account of how the US military has been undermined and manipulated by Presidents with no real understanding of foreign and military realities. Read this book and understand why Gen Wesley Clark should be the next US President.
Rating: Summary: Thank goodness for this book! Review: This book is eye-opening concerning the disrespect Clinton displayed during his 8-year presidency. It is amazing how careless President Clinton was with sensitive information. This is a must-read for anyone who wants to learn the truth behind all the spin that was the Clinton Administration.
Rating: Summary: Confirming What We Already Knew Review: I like this book. Buzz Patterson is frank and comes across not so much as a person with an ax to grind (in fact he seems downright apologetic at having to criticize his former boss) but as a professional involved with an administration of broad incompetence and ignorance. This, then, is really a cautionary tale and plea, not to elect Republicans, per se, but to elect people who grasp military strategy and national security realities, which of course was not the case in the Clinton administration. The book is a story of Patterson and his relationship to Clinton for the two years of duty as an aide assigned to carry the 'nuclear football.' There are many alarming insights in the book, most frighteningly how Clinton lost his set of nuclear codes, the most important piece of paper in the world, for an indefinite period of time during one on his many scandals. Noteworthy also is the cavalier attitude with which he (and especially his staff) treated the military, with chapters on everything from the Somalia ('Black hawk Down') debacle to refusing to take out bin Laden when given the opportunity (especially in light of the fact that he was known to be behind several bombings and the USS Cole attack). The list goes on and on. How we gave North Korea two nuclear plants in return for nonproliferation agreements (and look where we are now...Thanks, Bill), how we knowingly allowed Loral and others to sell 'dual-purpose' technology to China, vastly enhancing their nuclear weapons delivery capabilities, and how seats were essentially sold on Air Force One to big Democratic donors. The list goes on and on. Don't miss the sections on Hillary's influence on the White House (people from New York, pay particular attention). Likewise, do not mention the sections on Al Gore, whose personal distaste for military people is so extreme that even when greeted courteously, he would totally ignore them. (As a side note, I formerly was a C-9 pilot in the Air Force and knew several people in the Presidential Pilot Office at Andrews AFB, and they confirmed this behavior privately to me.) The single most useful device in this book is the chronology of major foreign policy events of the Clinton years. The list puts many events of those years into context and focus. If you adore Bill and Hillary (and Al), you will probably not want to read this book, but you desperately need to. If you want a candid view of daily life in the Clinton White House, this book is excellent.
Rating: Summary: Dereliction of Duty Review: Just finished reading "Losing Bin Laden". Had purchased another book, title above as a package deal from Border's. "DOF"..wow is the first word that comes to mind. Without going into great detail about this book, because I feel it would not do justice. But can say, I will never vote for another President that does not have our national defense as a priority. If a future President does to our national defense that Bill Clinton did then as a country we are doomed.
Rating: Summary: Own up to what you did President Clinton Review: Will this argument ever end? Republicans versus the Democrats. President versus President. We always find fault, but never any solutions. A lot of research shows that an incoming president suffers the system in place or decisions made from his predecessor. The book by Robert Patterson told the story about a President that captured the women's vote based on his looks. The book captured my attention and made me think why a man voted into office by his peers would disregard the position as commander in chief, as much as President Clinton did. He drew down the force, kept wages below what the cost of living was for service members. Totally disregarded this nations security and now today we pay the cost with deploying not only our active duty personnel, but also 1/3 of our nations reservists and National Guard. For all the negative comments about this book, do your research, before stating that this book is rubbish. All it did was open the public's eyes about how President Clinton conducted his presidency. It is a disgrace to all the men and women that are now serving their country, deployed to foreign nations fighting the war on terrorism, only a result of a neglectful president. I applaud Mr. Patterson for taking a stance and telling the public how it really was and what the President thought of the men and women that protect this country.
Rating: Summary: A revealing look at Clinton Review: Patterson's insider account reveals what we always suspected and feared of Clinton. From his disdain of the military to his carelessness concerning national security, Clinton was a danngerous president who shamed the U.S. at home and abroad. In Dereliction of Duty, Patterson has documented the proof
Rating: Summary: REPUBLICANS-REAP WHAT YOU SEW Review: GEE, is this author a Republican? How do you concentrate on honor when you are answering questions about sex all the time, something that should be and remain private. When the republicans say he lied under oath, remember, he lied about sex. Who wouldn't. And what did you expect from a man who was hounded, hunted, and hassled for most of the time he was in office. Rich Republicans kept Clinton on the run, meeting with Lawyers, worrying about his own peril while having to worry about that of the country's. We will never know the true measure of the man, or what kind of job he really could have done because of those who were out to destroy a party, a man, and fertile years for our country! Before you cast the first stone sir...
Rating: Summary: Republican Reviewer in TX Review: This is the kind of bull plop best suited for those "conservatives" who think Fox News is...well, news. This type of blatant bias gives real conservatives a bad name and makes our job much harder. Glad you want to be a republican, but you'll help more by staying the hell out of the way.
Rating: Summary: Clinton Harmed Our National Security: Here's the Proof Review: Each president is commander and chief of our armed forces. Bill Clinton, the "come back" 60s kid, held a rather low view of the military. In his youth, he said he "loathed the military," and this book shows it. In this book you will see how Clinton croonies treated the military rather poorly. You will learn how when guests were staying with Clinton, they would hand over their belongings for military men to carry, as though they are nothing but low-level hotel workers. You will see how Clinton lost the nucleur code and yet, did not appear to care much about losing it. When the question of attacking a foreign nation was up for debate, Clinton was clearly absent, focused instead on charming his way with other elites. Mr. Patterson documents how repeated attempts were made to get Clinton's attention on the golf course to make a decission -- because military men and women were in harm's way and needed a decission from their president. But Clinton continued to push these remarks aside, asking that they wait. And wait they did. You will learn how low-class his wife, Hillary Clinton, Senator from New York (although she was born in Arkansas), treated the military poorly as well. . . and how uncomfortable people were around here. This is an excellent book! Michael Gordon
