Summary: A great book for all readers
Review: I loved this book it talked about the trials and tribulations the seals had to go through when they first became an organization

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Interesting and true
Review: I must give credit to Mr. Boehm. It was not only his will and determination to fight for what he believed no matter the out come, but also not to let his dream of this happening die. Mr Boehm's hard headed approach not only produced the worlds best warriors, he produced a world of pride to go with them. Its a shame our government wants to play patty-cake and let arm chair warriors, do battle, instead of letting real men fight without worrying about what the polls will do to them. The military needs more warriors like Mr. Boehm and Mr Marcinko. Enough said, READ THIS BOOK, ITS WELL WORTH IT!

Summary: excellent, real..
Review: I read a lot of seal-books and this one is by far the best: real, direct, pfw/pfd! Even as good as rogue warrior ( the original one).

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great for those who want to know
Review: If you have any interest at all in the history of the Navy SEALs, then this book is probably the best you could possibly read. Roy Boehm is the man who created the first SEAL team under the authority of President Kennedy, and this is his story, complete with all the unpleasant little details and obstacles that went with his mission and, happily, without any boring or misleading technical jargon; this is what happened in the simplest of layman's terms. (I've already read this book 4 times since buying it, and it never seems to be any less fascinating or intense a story.)

Summary: A Must Read
Review: If you've read any of Dick Marcinko's books, you owe it to yourself to read Roy Boehm. I've read all of Dick's books. My only regret was that I was into about my third when I "discovered" Boehm thru Dick's writings. Don't make the same mistake. Start with Boehm, then read all of Dick's books. The style is different, as Boehm's is a pretty straight bio.
I disagree with the reviewer who dismissed this as a book filled with vulgarity and historical mis-information. If you want to read about SEALs, this will give you the perspective of one of the best.

Summary: 1st Edition review
Review: In short, Roy Boehm defines who a SEAL is, since all SEALs today owe it to his personality that was permanently imprinted into the SEAL character; Get the Mission accomplished, straight ahead Flank Speed, no obstacles tolerated (back in his day that inluded turf conscious Admirals) It's a 10 star SEAL book, I have most of all the SEAL books written in my collection, but Roy Boehm is not only the First SEAL, he's the First to Get it Right when it comes to writing action packed SEAL adventures..Non Fiction at that!! Can't wait for 3rd edition!!

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Great in the beginning slow at the end
Review: It was a good book until the Vietnam War. Then he no longer talked about the United States SEALs, but some Vietnam SEALs he was training. The book would have been a good book if he had stuck with the United States SEALs. There are better books about the SEALs. I myself happen to like COMBAT SWIMMER by Captain Robert A. Gormly much better than this one!!

Summary: COMMANDER BOEHM HERO AND TRAITOR
Review: IT'S HARD TO HAVE TO CALL SOMEONE LIKE COMMANDER ROY BOEHM A TRAITOR, BUT BY THE DEFINITION OF THE UNIFORM CODE OF MILITARY JUSTICE, HE WAS. MAIBE THIS IS WHY IT TOOK HIM OVER 30 YEARS TO WRITE HIS BOOK.

IN VIETMAN, COMMANDER BOEHM STRUCK UP A FRIENDSHIP WITH A HIGH RANKING ENEMY COMMANDER. COMMANDER "MINH" OF THE "514 VIET CONG BATTALION", WHO WAS ACTIVELLY GOING AROUND SOUTH VIETMAN BLOWING UP AND ASSASINATING OTHER AMERICAN MILITARY PERSONNEL, WHILE COMMANDER BOEHM WAS ENTERTAINING HIMSELF TO LUNCHES AND DINNERS WITH HIM: HE WAS EVEN SAVED FROM A BOMBING BY HIM.

ROY NEVER REPORTED HIS CONTACTS WITH THE ENEMY TO HIS CHAIN OF COMMAND. IF HE HAD, HE KNOWS HE WOULD HAVE BEEN COURT-MARTIALLED. WORSE, COMMANDER "MINH" WAS DOING DOUBLE DUTY AS A MAJOR IN THE ARVN RANGERS, THE U.S. FRIENDLY SOUTH VIETNAMESE GOVERNMENT.

THEN HE HAD SEXUAL RELATIONS WITH "MINH'S" SISTER "CO-VAN" WHOM HE KNEW TO BE "ACTIVE VC", WHAT DID "ACTIVE VC" DO IN SOUTH VIETNAMESE CITIES DO, ESPECIALLY A VERY ATTRACTIVE ONE?

TRUE, BOTH "MINH" AND "CO-VAN" WERE PASSIONATE BELIEVERS IN THEIR CAUSES AND OUR COUNTRY'S RE-ESTABLISHEMENT OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH THE UNIFIED VIETNAM SUGGESTS THAT WE SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN ENEMIES, BUT THEY WERE ENEMIES AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN TREATED AS SUCH.

FOR A GUY WHO PURPORTS TO CARE ABOUT HIS PEOPLE, COMMANDER BOEHM TELL US NOTHING ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TO HIS "VIET FROGMEN" THE LDNN FIGHTERS HE COMMANDED, AFTER THE WAR ENDED. IT IS ALSO VERY LIKELY THAT HE GOT "CO-VAN" PREGNANT AND SOMEWHERE IN VIETNAM OR EVEN THE UNITED STATES, THERE IS A 1/3 KRAUT, 1/3 VIETNAMESE 1/3 FRENCH, FIST BRAWLING LOUDMOUTH, WAITING FOR AN UNLIKELY FAMILY REUNION.

I WILL GIVE COMMANDER BOEHM CREDIT FOR HIS HONESTY IN NOT DELETING ALL THOSE EVENTS, HE COULD HAVE DONE THAT AND NO ONE WOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER. SO MANY OTHER SIGNIFICANT PEOPLE IN HISTORY HAVE DONE THAT AND GOTTEN AWAY WITH IT.

Summary: An extraordinary book about an extraordinary man!
Review: Just as the title says; I believe the others who have reviewed this book have done it justice with their praise. Roy Boehm is an extraordinary man and his story suffers from no shortage of excitement. The book itself is also top knotch; no excessive drawl to take away from the story. Read this book! You will NOT regret your purchase!
