Rating: Summary: Origin of "Gonzo" matched with its seeds Review: When someone mentions Hunter S. Thompson, the almost immediate reponse is "Oh, yeh - the Fear and Loathing guy." To review that piece in 1998 is perhaps too little too late, but a glance at this volume, which matches the original with "Jacket Copy" and "The Kentucky Derby is Decadent and Depraved," is in order because of its complete vision of Thompson's style and purpose. What "Fear and Loathing" delivers is what was promised by "Kentucky Derby," and what it fails to tell you is what is filled-in by "Jacket Copy." For those interested in reading "Fear and Loathing," today, this package will give perspective on the times and reinforce the power of the original work.
Rating: Summary: Happy 25th Anniversary, doc! Review: While "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" has always been one of my personal favorites, it has never received the attention that it really deserves: the label of a classic piece of literature that captures the mood of the moment as perfectly as a photograph...perhaps even more so.
Maybe all the 25th Anniversary hoopla will change all that. I have many friends who are just reading the book for the first time and are now True Fans.
Glad to see the satirical artwork of Ralph Steadman becoming more popular in the US as well...a stroke of pure collaborative genius, HST and RSS...
Anyway, get this book, enjoy a bit of your favorite recreational aid and Have Fun. Why not? The 90's are almost over and what do we have to show for it?
