Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Most powerful book I've ever read Review: The most raw, truthful, down-to-earth book I've ever read about the Vietnam war. No hiding behind politics or public opinion; Mason isn't afraid to tell what he saw, like it was, in often graphic detail. If this were a work of fiction I'd say that the author had severe mental problems. The fact is that it's *not* a work of fiction, and testifies of the hell our brave boys went through.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A fantastic, shocking insight to the Vietnam war Review: I borrowed this book from a friend, and have since gone out and bought my own copy. From then, it has been on continous loan - I advise all to buy more than one copy! This book provides a shocking insight to the lives of the soldiers in the Vietnam war - a must read. The last paragraph is absolutely shocking. Will be read cover to cover hundreds of times, guaranteed.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A must read, best Vietnam book, Powerful, Moving Review: Folks, I would have rated this book more than just 5 stars, but they woudn't let me. This is the most realistic book I have ever read. I feel like I know how to flly the Huey myself. Great Description, very powerful look into what the war was really about. This is the only book I have ever bought. I must recament it to anyone who likes either war stories, or pilot/flying stories. Simply a must read!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Just like being in the pilots seat. Review: This would be one of the best books that I have read in recent times. My heart goes out to all those thousands of people who fought for others while losing their own lives. Bob has done a great job.A must read!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Read this book and become an Honorary Chopper Pilot Review: I first read this book many years ago and am about to buy it for the third time! It is an insight into one man's extraordinary experiences in SE Asia and is one of the few books I look forward to re-visiting every few years. I'm a Private Pilot and love the descriptions of actually flying a Huey, they are as vivid as the story itself. You'll feel as if you know how to fly a chopper yourself. Just read it!
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Once read, always remembered! Review: A friend loaned me this book several years ago, and once read it always stayed in my mind! A year or so ago it came to mind one day while lost in the library searching for something half decent. I read it again, and was kicking myself for not having read it again sooner. I have since bought a copy and lent it out almost continuously. This is a story that you will find hard to put down, you will find yourself drawn to the main character, through all his strengths and his weaknesses. Something unforgettable. I promise. Robert Mason is an ordinary man, with a remarkable story.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: informative, moving, shocking. Review: I've got to say , I was stunned by the last paragraph. A brilliant read. An informative page-turner. More complelling than fiction.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: One of the best books I have ever read. Review: This book sums up that little conflict in aisa that some people wished had never had happened. It's follows the the day to day training, living, breathing of a young man full of ideas, hopes and dreams. I am only 28years of age and after reading this book it felt like I lived it!. To anybody out there who thinks that there is some form of glory in war take your eyes away from the computer screen and read this book, You will be this mans shadow, you will be in the copilots seat. Robert Mason thank you for writing this book, it's a pity things did not go so well after your tour (mind you, after all these '10' ratings I'm sure things have changed alot sience than) Best Regards M. Lyons
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A must read for anyone who prefers to read about Vietnam Review: I prefer to read books on Vietnam based on real life experiences, and written by the people who where there. I have read at least 12 different books based on the Vietnam war and find Robert Masons Chickenhawk the most inforamtive and enthralling book on the war that I have ever read. From the flying of grunts into hot LZ's to medi-vac, and supply hops, you feel like your a passenger riding in the back seat the whole time. He has succeded in painting the whole pitcure of life in Vietnam, and I would highly recommend both of Robert Masons books on his life during and after Vietnam.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Don't bother to buy one copy Review: ...buy two, because you're going to end up loaning the other one out all the time, I'm not kidding. So far I've bought four copies either as gifts or so I always have a copy around even when another is loaned out. I have read other stuff about Ia Drang and landing zone x-ray, but Mason's account totally floored me, I couldn't believe it. It is such a shame that anybody ever has to go through that. On the other hand, there are scenes in this book that are so funny, I could barely breathe! "See Bob? He wants to kill himself!" This line doesn't sound like it would have you laughing, but I defy you to read that part in the book and not at least crack a grin. Thank you for writing this book Robert Mason. I think it must have been a difficult book to write.
