Summary: Exciting, action packed yet humorous and tranquil in parts.
Review: Fate is the Hunter is a true aviation masterpiece. The book depicts the often multi-facets of an airline pilot. Humbling experiences along with seconds of shear terror when a person may see their past life flash by are well portrayed. Then the return to the normal and tranquil, all in a matter of seconds. Simply driven by a seniority number that flys a soul to their destiny.

Summary: Absolutely the best aviation book ever!
Review: This book needs a new category because five stars are not enough. I found a paperback edition in Vung Tau, Viet Nam. I was there on R&R as a military pilot in 1965. I have carried it with me in my flight bag for over twenty five years. We have been all over the world. It has been read and re-read so many times that it is stored in a plastic freezer bag to keep the pages together. I donated it to my son who recently obtained his private pilot license. Any hopeful, amateur or professional pilot will love this book.

Summary: What a story !!!!!
Review: This has got to rank as one of the best adventure stories I have ever read even though it lacks almost all of the standard "adventure" cliches. It doesn't have a sultry blond with a mysterious past, it doesn't have chest of gold bullion to be smuggled or even a disenchanted ex-CIA agent. All it has is the story of a life as lived by a man who probably didn't realize how fascinating it was as as he lived it day by day. DONT EVEN THINK OF SEEING THE MOVIE.

Summary: Gann's anthology of aviation memories is a "must read" item
Review: Fate Is The Hunter, airline pilot Ernie Gann's vivid collection of flying memories, catalogs every pilot's experiences in a way each of us say, "I wish I could have said it like that". It is a book one can not put down 'til finished and only then with a regretful sigh because there isn't more. A must for any aviation enthusiast.

Summary: THE best aviation book ever written!
Review: Without question, this is THE masterpiece book about the early days of commercial aviation, and the pilots who pioneered airline travel. Ernest K. Gann writes with a clarity no other author has ever matched. As you read, you find that you are in the cockpit with Gann. You can feel the tension of emergencies, almost smell the fuel and feel the wind. If you read only one book about aviation, this has to be the one you read. I first read this book in 1962, and have re-read it every year since. Absolutely the best aviation book ever written!

Summary: The best aviation book ever written
Review: The first book I ever read that puts you in the cockpit, sweating to cross the Blue ridge Mountains, or to clear the Taj Mahal. Over 50 years later, the essence of airline flight has not changed, and Gann understood why pilots will aways be at "The tip of the Arrow" My mothergave me this book when I was 14, and it led to a career as an airline pilot with a major carrier...I have an original 1961 edition of this book, one of my most prized positions, and I re-read it from time to time; as a great literary work, and as a bedrock of what it means to live and work in the sky...because of men like him, a generation of pilots found their calling. Not just an aviation book, it addresses the ran- domness of fate in all walks of life. Very highly recommended!

Summary: Aviation is a reflection of man's dreams. Fate is the Hunte
Review: Aviation is a reflection of man's dreams. Fate is the Hunter latches on to the humanity in this dream. For those of you who are pilots, take it from an airline pilot...I would not want to fly with someone who had not read this book a dozen times! For those of you who like the idea of aviation, you will be treated to the best seat in the house...that is cockpit. For those of you who like good writing, who want something that you CAN'T PUT DOWN...Fate is the Hunter is it.Be advised that there is a movie version of this book that to many unknowing pilots seems to miss the boat of the movie...but after a thorough evaluation of the film...it is true to the zen of the book. ( beware the plane...a concotion of hollywood lawyers!)

Summary: The best aviation book I ever read
Review: There is no other book I have read that better conveys flying than this one. If you are interested in aviation and flying read it. If someone asks you why you are interested in flying, give it to them to read.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: I need a new copy.
Review: I was given the first edition (1961) in 1965, and have read it about every five years since then. It is now falling apart so I should buy another.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Ernie Gann's very best work! RATING:11-The Best of the Best!
Review: From the first pages he takes you into "the Beak of an Ancient Pellican" (from his book "Ernie Gann's Flying Circus" and rivits you to the pages till you cannot turn back. By the time you finish, you feel as though you have flown along side Ernie throughout his life. I only hope there is a special place in Heaven for great writers like Ernst Kellogg Gann. Every book he wrote was a masterpeice.
