Summary: A Thorough Research Guide and More
Review: In addition to being a thorough research guide, this work combines the thoroughness of subject matter of an encyclopedia along with a purposeful series of biographies. There is much about the presidents individually from Washington to the present while presenting historians and research enthusiasts alike with an opportunity to zero in on a particular president and his era and learn much more. There are thorough listings of cabinet members, detailed informations on vice-presidents, and lists of books available on the leaders and the periods of which they were a part for those who wish to do additional research on presidents and their eras.

One of my favorite parts of the book was the section dealing with presidential campaigns. One can easily get a feel for an era and its leaders by reading about the campaigns, learning about the major issues involved, and analyzing the critical problems facing the nation at those points, whether it be slavery and the Civil War or the Depression of the thirties. Comprehensive election results are also available, whereby interested readers can discern just where the country stood at a given point in time in terms of the voting power strengths of the parties regionally. Trends become clearly discernible through careful analysis.

I also like the way that comments regarding presidents, both pro and con, appear, done in an objective way. Patterns become discernible as to which major political forces backed and opposed certain presidents as well as why.

Summary: Best reference book I have
Review: Of all the reference books I turn to when I need to answer a student's question or satisfy a curiosity, this is the one I use the most. It is well organized and I find the information I am looking for quickly. Just about everything you would want to know about a president, his family, background, opponents, accomplishments, etc. is in this book. It includes worthwile stuff and the most mundane trivia. A must-have for any history teacher or presidential trivia enthusiast.

Summary: The Greatest US History Book
Review: The Complete Book of US Presidents got me through my AP US History Class in high school. It's a terrific book for finding the quick presidential fact you need for your report, or for just sitting around and reading. Students and history buffs will love how incredibly in-depth and detailed this book is. A MUST-READ!

Summary: The Ultimate Presidential Reference
Review: This book goes beyond complete and into the obscure and bizarre. Details include everything from the presidents' family tree, health maladies, cabinet and supreme court nominations, and positve and negative quotes from notable persons of the era.

This excellent reference has a very easy to read and consistent format. Even the most ardent presidential scholar is likely to learn a thing or two. There is no better reference available in my opinion.

Summary: Read for a great intro to our country's leaders
Review: This book is a great introduction for all of the U.S. presidents. The information for each president is presented unbiasedly (as unbiased as information can be at least) and includes a detailed summary of each president's administration, childhood, religious views, education, family, retirement, career before the presidency, military experience, and death.

Two features of this book that I especially liked were the portraits of each president at the beginning of each chapter, and also a ranking of the first 32 presidents (compiled by noted historians in 1962). Another thing I liked about the book is the section where each president is praised and criticized by his other noted colleagues.

This book is a necessary reference tool for anyone interested in U.S. history or presidents. I would recommend reading about one president every night before bedtime; that's what I did and now I know all 43 presidents of our great nation.

Summary: A must for anyone interested in the Presidents.
Review: This book is a must for anyone interested in the Presidents. It is filled with an endless amount of information and formatted in such a way to find the information you need, such as The election results, The president's parents and children as well as birth and death dates. I was amazed that this book even gives the time of day the President was born and Died.
This book was published in 2001 but fails to give the date of death of President Nixon as well as the Death date of Jackie Kennedy. It also shows President Taft's daughter Helen Herron Taft as still living and she died in 1987.
This book was updated to include President George W. Bush, but failed to update information on the former Presidents. Overall I would give this book Four stars for it's reference material.

Summary: Ultimate Presidential History
Review: This book is a must for anyone that wants a concise and quick background on all the United States Presidents. The book lists cabinet members, judicial appointments, running mates, election opponents, major accomplishments, campaign platforms, and the primary process in which each President secured the nomination. Each President short biography covers how they grew up, women they loved, and what shaped their leadership style.

If you are a history and political enthusiast this book is a great reference tool. It is also a great way to follow how the United States has progressed over the past three centuries. One fascinating part of the book is some of the newspaper quotes during each Presidency. With each President there is support and opposition for the President's policies. For example, it is interesting to see criticism of George Washington. Even the great Washington could not please everyone. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in Presidential history.

Summary: Excellent Resource
Review: This excellent resource for presidential information has consistent topics for each president (Birth, Parents, Campaign, Opponents, etc.), making it easy to find facts you want. The main drawback is the paper quality; this pulpy paper won't last long. Too bad, the book is a keeper.

Summary: Good Reference on U.S. Presidential Administrations
Review: This is a solid reference book. If you are looking for thumbnail sketches of U.S. Presidents and their administrations, this book will satisfy. The personal history of the president is here, family information, political career highlights, administration personnel, major issues faced, election results, quotes and opinions for and against. It is the kind of book I remember as a youngster that gives you enough information to fire one's thirst for historic knowledge -- great for browsing. Only complaint, the paper on which the work is printed is of a very inferior quality that is not the best one could ask for for reading -- also not particularly durable. These are production criticisms, the work is very good for its purpose.

Summary: An excellant reference book about U.S. presidents...
Review: This is an excellant information sourse to ourpresidents and their families, their cabinets and other interesting trivia. Well worth the price. User friendly andI refer to it often. Thepaper mine was printed on is really 'el-cheapo' pulpmagazine quality. A bookof this quality deserves much more!
