Review: This sumptous book, amply illustrated with beautiful color photos, is the catalog for a recent art exhibit in London. The perspectives of the exhibit and the book glorify the aesthetic aspects of the Aztec empire and nobility. This is a beautiful introduciton to Aztec royal art. If you want a more balanced account of Aztec society, however, with an emphasis on daily life of the non-rich and non-famous, see the new edition of Smith's textbook, The Aztecs (2003, Blackwell).
